This is a spin from the recent news of the Wizards moving to northern VA, and the OKC Thunder looking like they will be staying in OKC after a city vote last night.

If you were an owner of a franchise, how would you run it? Where in DC (or your favorite city) would you have the arena? How are you managing the relationship with the city? How are you attracting the big donors in the area to pay for the high dollar tickets courtside or the suites? What are you doing to attract free agents to come play for your city?

I see alot of different ideas, so would love to see how you are making your team the destination to be for fans, players, and donors.

Aint nothing you can really do about FA. Either they like the city or they dont and you cant overpay. My focus is putting the best squad with the best culture posdible out there. That will go farther more consistently in addressing everything you listed than any gimmicks or marketing ploys.

Ok. so how are you putting this culture together? What does that mean? What is your city?

Wait we get to pick the city? :krs:

NY easy. Would say LA but the Lakers already own that. I am bringing in smart proven people and getting out the way. First call is to Jerry West.

I would probably pick a small market like San Antonio, indy, or Charlotte....

I would build team in the similar vein as the 80s-90s pacers.....

for sure.

This is off the Ted Leonsis/ DC/ Wizards move to northern VA. He feels that DC isnt for him and his team anymore, cause of culture/area/not getting money from the city, whatever. So im looking to see what The Coli has to say.

So what area of NYC are you putting this arena? What neighborhood? How are you getting the city of NY on board? What are you building around your arena?

Also, the Knicks already own NYC, so thats a bad idea to start. Ask the Brooklyn Nets.

shyt I aint got that far yet lol. I dont know even know NY like that :heh:. I am putting family friendly restaurants and activities inside and around it. Giving family discount prices on tickets. Really focusing on bringing families out and establishing our brand slowly over time that way rather going for the big splash. Knicks own NYC but not because of play...its because they the Knicks. You put a consistent quality product out there and you can draw fans and FA.

As the other poster said, all you can do is create a culture, put together a squad that will embrace said culture, and go from there. For big cities, the owners were involved, at the games and all over the city making their mark. That gets the city behind you, and from there, sky's the limit...as far as interest goes. A great name, great team colors and logo - branding is important,...

Next is putting the team together. Initially, you have to get the players that want to be there; those that will also embrace the city and the people. After that, you go through the annual grind of building upward.

Baltimore is still a good spot. Louisville, Kansas City, Nashville....ooh Hartford...if Upstate NY didn't have the bad weather situation, they'd be a good city. Charleston, SC

Everything you think about LA can be said about NY. Since the new millennium the Nets have been better than the Knicks and it doesn't matter.

Not consistently. Lakers run LA because of those banners. Nobody cared about them in 79. You do something like that in NY (tall order I know) and you are Tony Montana/Nas.

I'm sure people "cared" about them in 79. They had titles in LA and no competition in the sport of basketball. That doesn't apply to the endeavor of raising a new franchise in a city already with an insanely popular team. And your case, you'd be adding a third team.

They werent what they are now though. They had to be built into that over time. Your point about being an upstart 3rd team is true. But you win ring in LA its "Lakers got 17". You bring the first bball chip to NY since fukkin Nixon and you are a legend. Maybe not surpassing the Knicks...yet but still solid in the biggest city.
