The suburbs
When I say black film im particularly talking about ones wit a street element. I was watching the wutang shyt on Hulu and almost every actor on there seems forced. Especially Ghostface. It ain't just that though. It's the Chi. It's snowfall. It's that one purge movie that took place on long island. I can go on and on. I haven't seen a good casted black film in a while unless it's something that completely lacks any street element period. (Get out)

Back in the day the casting was just so authentic.

Here's a quick clip from clockers

This type of authenticity just doesn't exist anymore

Instead you got corny scenes n actors like this playing street legends

Those two scenes in the op are pretty bad. Especially the scene in the first video from 0:07 to 1:27. The script comes off as written by a non black person who thinks every black person talks like a stereotypical 90s compton rapper. It was the same thing in The Sopranos where every black criminal on the show was 1 dimensional, spoke with outdated slang and was brainless but all the Italians and jewish criminals had interests outside of committing crime and were written with actual life and personality. It's mostly due to non black people having a bigger hand in The Chi, Power, Empire, Snowfall etc than they did with movies/shows like Paid in Full or Juice etc.

....
I’ll tell you why

You see these actors in interviews and they are Braxton P. Hartnabrig clones

images

And when you put them on camera they have to talk and act street

:beli:

They don’t know how ...

:skip:

(Paperboy might be the one exception)

It’s really that simple

When I win I bring we with me
Alot of the black actors today grew up surrounded mostly by white folks from the burbs:sas1: ....and can't properly (relate to / convey the) material :sas2:

:snoop:
Nothing more cringe than seeing these types trying to play someone who grew up around black folks in the city. Sounds like a bad stereotype at times.

EDIT:
This Netflix shyt right here (opening scene before intro credits) is a perfect example of what I'm talking about in terms of getting these suburban kids to play these roles. And this is a Blumhouse movie where you'd think the production would have better oversite than this.

(Far as I can tell this is suppose to be South Central LA ...but watch these daddy daycare ass kids "act")

RZA is the producer on this movie also.... keep his ass away from casting

You gotta realize Hollywood is whitewashed. For the longest if you had a "hood" accent it was no off top unless you were already established (like dmx) or needed for a specific "gangsta" roll. Now that Hollywood is looking for those type they aren't around unless you get a new inexperienced actor.

Plus kids and young adults don't talk the way we did back then. It's more proper now. That's a good thing for us as a culture but not for new hollywood

It seems like culturally, America is in a decline period.

We're still searching for replacements for actors that started acting the 80s.

Even in music, we're searching for that next big thing
I blame vine. That shyt killed the comedy genre honestly.
