Another thing is that a lot of these dudes simply just do not have anything organic about them....They don't have personalities outside of basketball, even the way they play the game has no unique flair to it, and because of how early they're on social media...everything about them has been curated to such an extent they never learned how to be anything other than what's trending.

It's partially why Ant Man is as entertaining as he is, because he's something you can't cook up in a boardroom or try to mimic cause you see it online doing numbers.

I think also because of how many of these dudes do not go to public school anymore, and legitimately did not have enough social interactions with regular people to have opportunities to get nicknames.

Seems like this is true for every sport, trends come and go.

Nowadays it seems like it's more just based on their names SGA, Hali/the Haliban, Ant-man, KAT, Joker etc. Even if they still try with some like The Anomaly, they really don't stick. Like say JJJ, people only say JJJ although he has The block panther.

Cause probably, they sound corny to both the players and the new fans :yeshrug:

Spida and Greek freak are the only ones I can think of that are frequently used that aren't connected to the players name. Unless you go a bit further back with Claw and them.

Edit: I also think everyone has a nickname, just they don't stick. Just like Grant Hill, Pippen, Ewing, or Stockton or even Kareem might've had many nicknames but they didn't stick like some other stars.

You still got some

Steph Curry - Chef Curry
Lebron - LeGM, LeHelp

Are the newer Sports Writers too specialised in their chosen subject like the modern day athlete is only concentrating on 1 sport growing up?

The originality of the 21st century sports writers nicknames start and end with. "The New...."

Like paat max in boxing. None of the sports guy are thee experts of their interests. They are like the prince dejour of sportswriters.

That you have to ask yourself. Why are they hosting rap city? Like prince dejour being the host of rap city.

I think we're seeing more social media/bloggers/vloggers become the sports writers and who are more focused on 1 sport as its a 365/24/7 news cycle there is no off-season anymore even when they are in an off-season. Previously the writers would cover different sport in the different seasons. Baseball season finishes put that to bed and onto the NFL/NBA. Where relationships were built up over time. The relationship was probably more beneficial between writer and athlete in yesterday era mainly because it was the only avenue for the athlete to speak on topics prior to social media. So if an athlete wanted to get their nickname over they could get the writer to frame it as their idea in return for some insider inner workings or a story.
