can someone explain why the bay always seem to be on some weirdo shyt. its like they exist independently from the rest of cali and do things their own way. they have a unique style but why are they so different and weird compared to the rest of cali generally?

the region has always been very insular. expect this to change in the next few years though, the internet has finally begun to crack away at the wall, and you'll probably hear a lot more generic rappers from the bay as a result.

I don't think its "weird", it just is one of the only places where there is still a regional sound and style. Far more weird, and alien to the history of hip-hop is the fact there's all these tracks with rappers from New Orleans, Philadelphia, Miami, Toronto, New York and Atlanta that have broadly similar production and sound as if they came off the same compilation. Hip-hop is becoming more of a monoculture due to everyone more or less following the same radio stations, music stations, internet sites, etc. It is what it is.

The Bay Area has a regional sound, but a great variety in different type of rappers that they haven't always been given credit for.

Its not weird at all, just some of their music is different. You guys don't pay enough attention to all of the music to understand.

Artists like DJ Shadow, Del The Funky Homosapien, and the Dead Kennedys called the Bay Area home. They have a very diverse sound and culture up there. You guys don't get it because you've never spent anytime there. The Bay and Northern California is dope.
