This applies to the book as well.

Young man drops out and goes into the world to make his fortune. :mj:

Falls in love with a bytch. :patrice:

She gets married to some other man. :manny:

He goes to Oxford. :ehh:

Comes back to the states and gets rich bootlegging. :myman:

Then, instead of manning up and just talking to her, he builds a huge house right next to hers and throws extravagant parties all the time, while skulking like a wounded ho for MONTHS AND MONTHS. He runs long island and literally CANNOT say a word to some bytch he hit before he even left for World War I. :snoop:

And then he takes a bullet for her because the bytch can't drive :mindblown:

Jay Gatsby is the biggest simp in the American literary canon and I dare anyone to argue otherwise.

This ain't no spoiler, I knew this reading the book in high school... I called Gatsby a whining punk in my book report and got a B+:myman:

They'd be spoilers for people who haven't read the book but want to see the movie.

Props on the book report though. :cena:

tragic simping, and love is blindness. Love can be ugly in it's consumption of people, worst is Daisy wasn't shyt, a vapid, dumb, socialite who married for money with the depth of a glass of water. That was always the worst part. I know too many girls like Daisy, we all do.

Daisy wasn't even worth going through all that shyt for :beli:

The whole point of the book was that Gatsby could never truly assimilate into high society because he was low born, thus his need for Daisy, as she would validate him. Tom made sure to remind Gatsby of his status at every chance. shyt always felt stupid to me. All old money families were once new money. Most of these old money families dont even have money like that because its been diluted so many different ways through the generations, so if anything Gatsby was the one winning :umad:

Gatsby could've easily found some broad from one of those type of families who wasn't married....no money but, alot of prestige and clout....and he would've had what he wanted but, nah.....he chases after Daisy for 10 years. Dude was like 30 with $50 million and he couldn't let go of some adolescent fling. Yea fukking right :rudy:

Surely if he would've done that he would have been no better than the Buchanan's.

Fitzgerald wouldn't have Gatsby retreat into his wealth and money because it wouldn't be consistent with the message of the novel and Fitzgerald's own feelings and condemnation of the lavish excesses and hollowness of the 20s.
