Sports Analyst, Emmanuel Acho, says being non-FBA means he doesn't have "generational trauma" and he can speak with no "sting" to white people.

African brehs learn "history" but not HISTORY until they spend some time around us.

Often they get the whitewashed version that removes a lot of context. So...they speak from a privileged outsider position.

They want us to just get over what's happening/happened to our people......yet.....they came to America because they couldn't get past their cultural/ethnic/religious differences back home....and those were all Black people.

America is like South Africa but if the Boers had the majority from the jump. Think about how ridiculous that would be...and here we are.

Acho is too clumsy to show proper respect but we are going to have to address African immigrant success rates at some point.

The only group to provide a “base” for the diaspora in the first place has been us(fba). All parties involved are in the west, speaking English :beli:
OK.

And?

Like, I want black people to succeed. But one segment of that demographic is excelling over others.

If we’re going to ignore that going forward, let me know.

Acho is a clown and he doesn’t say much I agree with…but uncomfortable convos are going to need to be had...

Do you think the future of the “black” diaspora is in the USA or Africa? Let’s be serious right now.

I’m not talking about prior impact. I’m talking about what the future will be.

Acho is trying to thread a needle, that he doesn’t have the skill to do, of a discussion around self pride and achievement and progress. Its hard to do that when you can’t relate to struggle and dont want struggle to define you.

Plus, at some point you need to look at the stats of achievement and accomplishment. The backgrounds are different, so whats the excuse going to be in the next 50 years?

well, I can’t speak for Africa cause I’m not African and I know nothing about how they do things there
This is America and an African or Caribbean or any person of color who is non-ADOS/FBA should speak for themselves and themselves only

This is why we had a big beef with Joy Reid who is half Caribbean half African, who use her voice to say things that Black people should protest against ICE in LA for Mexicans, who we all know they fukking hate us … This is why delineation is very important because people need to represent their own

Acho is even on record saying he grew up in Dallas I believe and never knew or understood the black community until he got to the NFL
so why would a man feel he has the right to speak for a community he knows nothing of

I dont care

I cared so little I didnt even remember this thread or leaving this comment :dead: this time around i actually clicked the video

i kinda get what both Acho and Van Lathan were saying. I like Lathan's take but at the same time... white people not learning.

Black People willing to have conversations with them are somewhat helpful. What's less helpful is people enforcing that Black people HAVE to have those conversations. fukk that. But if some Black people want to volunteer for it... whatever. We keep expecting White people to rise to the occasion like they don't sink further and further. they want easy answers.

I have zero context on Acho as a human being besides him sniffing his fingers after hooking up with Joy Taylor tho. If he's normally c00ning then this is more cover than his actual stance

Are you prepared for a world where your race is the least important thing about you?

What segment is doing better than all the others. And how long is that supposed to last. Black people succeeding in true diasporan form requires strong predominantly black countries. If we’re not talking that then what are we talking about really. You can’t have your cake and eat it too

You might as well tell us the price of tea in China or how much toilets cost in India because neither has anything to do with the original post. Regardless of how well or how poorly a migrant is doing…if you ain’t us then you don’t speak for us.

Whats the discussion we’re having here? That Acho is tone deaf to black history or that he doesn’t want black trauma to be used as an excuse for failure?

which is it?

No, we’re not :mjlol:
Yeah. We are. The affirmative action regime and other forms of selective-minority advantage programs have effectively been neutered and suppressed. Its over.

We’re in the “racial blindness”/meritocratic age. Now it’s really about who you know and what you can do, to that extent.

So yeah, what worked in the Obama era won’t work now.

Smarten up.

Acho is annoying as fukk but black Americans will need to evolve their thinking on identity and solidarity and advancement going forward. The world isn’t going to wait any longer.

No we don’t. It’s DUMB to compare the best of another country who come here to general people who live here. You think it makes sense for me to compare the education of African Americans I know living in Nigeria to the average Nigerian back home? There would be no comparison. AA expats are much more educated than the everyday Nigerian living in Nigeria. It’s such a dumb measure. shyt is so bad in places like Nigeria that local Nigerians would tell me never use a Nigerian doctor in Nigeria because the ones still there were low quality and couldn’t qualify to work abroad. :krs:

America takes our best but you think they represent the average African. No…..they do not.

Are you even Black?

this remotely makes no sense toward the topic at hand

I assume your on this Pan African shyt
with that said what is the percentage of Africans who consider themselves as black ?

because several decades ago when they migrated here in the highest numbers, they damn sure didn’t

Yeah it’s a bad comparison. I’m just telling you the wider aperture of the fall out from this convo. You keep trying to go back to establish differences instead of dealing with the state of affairs as they stand right now and moving forward.

I’m indifferent to the pan-african convo. I’m just speaking on the current obstacles and the choices that need to be made in the future.
