I mean.. people keep saying “AI is here, adapt or die” then get mad when it’s being used lol. I’m glad my company is not using it… yet. I didn’t know people were still messing with SI like that.
The adaptation is to die, essentially

The jobs AI are replacing will create a massive void in the workforce that will never be filled

Our favorite beat reporters are going to be bots within the next 10 years

Right or wrong (mostly wrong), a big question people need to be asking is why we even need as much content as we get in sports in the first place?

It is probably safe to assume that those specific AI generated articles they published weren't necessary, if they could so quickly and easily be erased. So why do we need a person or the bot at all? Why do we need those pieces?

The same goes for that woman who said she made up sideline reports.

That was bad, sure. But the real question or point that should have been taken from that was "if you can just stand there and lie about something that really added nothing to the process, and nobody knew or cared to call it out until you did, why do we have you in the first place?"

boy...

anybody who went to school for Journalism, your degree worth about nothing.

yeah, they may take some flack, but thats because they are the first to incorporate it. trust, this might be the future of writing articles.

Sports stations hire ex athletes instead of actual journalists/beat writers. its spooky

I mean I agree with you. AI is being used for writing.. We just have to sit back and wait to see who else gets outed.

:mjcry: Man...SI was the bees knees many moons ago. The Swimsuit edition was exquisite:banderas:. Crazy that I wrote about AI last night and its confirmation with this thread that writers are going to be alright, and just let the domino effect happen with these greedy ass companies:

Lately, I have been seeing endless articles about the future of AI and how it will take a job, crush dreams, destroy humanity, and other doomsday occurrences. Until just a minute ago into coming up with a blog for tonight, I asked the unfamiliar companion provided by Google, what to write for tonight. The Result was hilarious, as it had a quick, mundane response and a cooker cutter layout that screams soulless.

That’s it right there…

Nothing will compare to the soul of a writer, so what is there to worry about outside the unknown. No matter how advanced technology is, you will see the blood, sweat and tears being put into art. From the digital art that has a slight color issue that was overlooked, to a melody that was off-key. Maybe, just maybe, imperfection is the key to modern day society that will never be duplicated. Self-checkouts in various retail stores require the mechanics and guidance of man, so that too shall pass.
Another example comes in the form of entertainment. On Twitch, there is a 24/7 channel dedicated to AI doing a parody of the classic TV show “Seinfeld”. Unfortunately, the AI is rough around the edges as glitches occur, conversations are methodical, and not a sense of understanding of human life exists in such a beautiful mess of an ideology.

WHY ARE WE WORRIED?

Advancement is essential to the wonders of technology, but nothing will hold back the wonders of dedication, passion, and a creative mindset. Now, don’t get me wrong, the concept of AI is intriguing to my nerd like thoughts.
When I need a decision to be made, ChatGPT helps at the last minute.
When I need a guideline to follow for a letter or even to avoid writer’s block, AI runs in at the dire moment to provide a way of escape of the dreaded block. Yes, the answer seems ridiculous such as talking about sleep, a topic that haven’t occurred in my thoughts, but it gave me an idea of what to write.

Please stop the worrying?

Just like Virtual Reality, the technology is there, but it has a long way to go. Just like countless forms of technology from the past to the present, we either adapt with the direction, or perish in fear of the unknown.
For now, I can truly say that we as writers will prevail, so please keep writing. Please don’t let the doom and gloom destroy your spirit, because that exact same spirit is stronger than a binary code that could make a script in 10 seconds, but will never know the human soul like we do.

Your company thinks people are going to be more productive and efficient than AI?

Remember that this is the worst this technology will be, and it is advancing every day and getting better. Generative AI will drastically every field that is text/language based, which means, everything. If there's text available with detailed information to train and fine tune AI models, it's in play.

Nothing is safe, people going to have to value working with their hands and in trades again, because text, creative and idea based activities are already being disrupted with this technology.

I'll take it a step further my guy. Not just sports, think about all the content people have uploaded on the net for free? Think about all the intellectual content and thorough guides/walkthroughs and excellent think pieces people have put in articles/blogs since the net became mainstream.

Now think about social media posts, comment sections for products and user reviews. All of this stuff is now fair game to be used to train LLMs that are being backed from the same players we all know, love and use every day. (Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon)

People have put so much content out there that we're coming to a point where machines can replicate us better than we can. This is where consumerism and grasping for attention online has gotten us as a society. No matter what it is, most of us feel the need to share that experience. There's this cinematographer/film director that I follow on IG, and he made a post going over how he's using ChatGPT's custom agents to help his followers. I watch the video, and this dude literally uploads all of his previous film scripts to ChatGPT so anyone can ask the bot to help them write in his style and themes.

:mjlol:

I asked him, "So do you get any insights or access to the queries that people ask the chat for doing this?" he's like nope. SO basically, you uploaded all your creative ideas and writing style to OpenAI that will now be able to leverage that to train their product off your mind for free. The shyt is wild but it's reality. This went on a tangent but...
:manny:

EDIT: Here's the video I'm referencing
