Some familiar faces from the over/under gambling thread from the old site and the gambling sun forum. I tip my hat to the regulars.

Abolut always gives us so much knowledge. Definitely appreciate it.

For the past 2 months I've been using March Madness, the NBA and a little bit of MLB to practice for the football season and next years college basketball and nba seasons. I put 50 dollars in my account in march and built a solid bank roll. I have been betting 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s and an occasional 40 or 50, just trying to build discipline so that one bet doesn't affect me (Apparently you should only be betting 2 to 5 percent of your bank roll so that when you go on a losing streak you don't lose everything.) and just focus on picking 52.5 percent winners and up. The thing I've realized is that if I can't turn 50 dollars in to 500 dollars just picking good games then I shouldn't be betting. Besides a few bad bets where I decided to go 90 percent in and lost I'm doing pretty good and have been building solidly. A lot of times in the past I've noticed I'd bet big I noticed I just didn't have the discipline or I wasn't really recording what went in and out so this practice is good for me.

My first real betting experience was at Delaware Park Casino doing football parlays so I had to be perfect in order to win anything but now I'm taking a more structured approach (and not doing sucker bets anymore, well I'll still throw an occasional parlay tix but it won't be the basis of all my betting) I still need to work on limiting my plays.

Since Monday I'm 22-10. (68 percent).

One good bet as far as NBA is watching the game and live betting. Predicting when a team will come back or when a team who's ahead will quit on a game will make you some good money. I bet on the Bulls + 43.5 tonight. lol

I definitely had Golden State Money line and Golden State + 7.5 tonight. Normally when I bet Underdog Money Lines I also bet the spread of the underdog for Double so I still make a profit if the Underdog wins. I'm still pissed from 2 bets this week. I had Memphis ML Sunday when they gave up that lead to the thunder and I had Golden State ML in Game 1. Those two bets would have been good for me.

I agree. I've got rules:

No drunk gambling
No parlays
Only bet 20% of purse in a day

What ends up happening is a drink a ton of beers watching the Saturday noon games. Next thing I know, it's Sunday and I'm cursing myself for getting drunk and betting away my whole purse on Saturday, while watching NFL RedZone to keep track of my 8 game $50 parlay.

:snoop: I just realized that I should just stop drinking altogether.

alot of trouble for a small amount of money

i got addicted to making stupid nba prop bets. when dwight howard had that rough patch early in the season, i kept betting he'd get 9,10+ rebounds & kept losing.

safest bet is picking good defensive college bball teams & bet the under

some of my boxing betting wins
margarito vs cotto 1 - predicted the method of victory, round, and winner; i got broke off :whew:
ward vs kessler - predicted ward as a winner and the method of victory
pacquiao vs cotto - predicted winner, round, and method of victory - used that money to buy my first flat screen TV:jawalrus:
floyd vs mosley - i was :whew: though mosley didn't KO him in that 2nd round
pacquiao vs margarito - this fight gave me like 5 heart attacks; i had money like 5 different prop bets that i would hit all of them as long as margarito stayed on his feet which almost didn't happen:whew:

my boxing betting losses
pacquiao vs de la hoya - fukkin oscar being drained for this shyt :snoop:
klitschko vs haye - the most i ever lost on a fight; i fell for haye's bullshyt...i could only be mad at myself
and the aforementioned pacquiao-bradley fight

Yeah I've made a killing on boxing over the years. My biggest hit was probably Mayweather-Gatti where I bet on the Mayweather KO and hit the round. I think I hit for like $2000 on that. I've rarely missed on my bets minus betting big on Cotto in his fight with Manny.

I've been in it for three years and done very very well. I am a sharp when it comes to college football, soccer and NFL. I actually created my own formula after the first year of barely breaking even. I am very good with numbers and my younger brother majored in statistics in college....yes statistics.

I got so good at one point...I thought about quitting my full-time job. Being a sharp bettor is like having a full-time job. You can't be in it half-way. I would study game tape, schemes, coaches, rosters, injury reports in my off-time for hours like I was in school. The key thing is when you win big...you got to take what you won and step away which most bettors have a hard time doing. Bias towards and against teams is what hurts many bettors. Lack of knowledge buries 90% of bettors...as most are casual bettors.

I like playing with real cash because you really have something to lose...no disrespect to coli cash as its a good way to get used to playing...but nothing is like playing with real money. It will test your mind for real.

You mind sharing that formula?

I went to Wharton and statistics was probably one of my favorite classes.

I agree, you don't really learn from betting coli cash because it just doesn't hurt when you lose. You have to use your real cash to feel the burn from losing, it makes you better.

i majored in stats as well. me and a couple buddies tried to come up with a football formula over the course of 4-5 years. only sports we could beat the market with our own origination were baseball and college basketball. i stopped trying to beat football when i realized i cant do it, i dont have the resources to do it on my own. i put the resources i do have, which are the actual winning bettors betting into our lines, and use that to my advantage. thats how i deal with betting football anymore. billy walters whacks away at something? ill bet it at at a slower moving book. the fukking chinaman team is firing on some nba? ill bet it at a slower moving book. i cant beat football or the nba on my own. it takes all the headaches away from worrying about handicapping football, saves tons of time, and we can use some of that time to pry away at the smaller market, beatable sports. football/nba isnt beatable longterm for anyone without extensive resources (ie six figures worth of data/quant equipment and teams to sort through that material)
