Spotify is not letting Tidal come and steal the show! Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek just announced a new element to the app including a “video capsule.”

The video element of Tidal was always the one thing it had over Spotify, but not for long. The app also partnered with Comedy Central, Vice News, and MTV for exclusive content.

And wait there’s more! Spotify also added a new running menu, for those who like to listen to music when they exercise. So there will be a mode that will detect your running tempo, and match it to songs that work well with your exercise.

The update to Spotify’s app occurred yesterday afternoon, and no worries you won’t have to pay extra for the new video service, the new element will be included in the standard Spotify subscription cost.

Oh shiiitttt!!!!!

Competition is good but Spotify got something here.

However, Beats Music (Apple) is pulling strings to have labels not offer music on a free, ad-supported platform and straight paid subscriptions.

I'd rather have exclusive video content from artists tbh
Idc because I do not use a streaming service. Youtube is doing me fine for now. But exclusive content is going to come from the artists who signed the declaration because they have invested interest. Every other artist (notable ones) is going to want to be paid upfront or asking for huge solids because I am sure someone on the discovery thing would exploit the exposure to obviously paying viewers.

Watching concerts on TV, computers or phones isn't a big draw. I enjoyed the B-side concert, though.

There's really no such thing as exclusive just being first.

Streaming video from artist to consumer is the next wave. Wether it's concerts, studio, a day in the life, or q&a with fans sitting in their "chatroom" or however the fukk it will be modeled. REAL TIME VIDEO INTERACTION from artist to fan is gonna be huge. Whoever gets it right first will have the juice.

@Matt504 would you agree?

I agree this could be something major but it's all incumbent on "getting it right", I've shot a few day in the life vids with artists out here in Houston but nothing ground breaking that will engage viewers outside of any other video of that artist. The burden will be on the entertainers to offer themselves up for that real time interaction with their fans but unfortunately many entertainers don't know how or prefer not to interact with fans on a personal level.
