I wonder how long will they keep the website up and running before they can it to focus on the podcasting side of things.
It says they are keeping all current 90 employees but the writers started a union last year which probably accelerated this buyout
The Ringer Union has been complaining since the rumor started about the sale because management has not been keeping them in the loop

Maybe it's some new nikka shyt but if I can't listen to your content or watch it you can keep it. So podcast and YouTube. Not reading no articles with two gifs when people doing full breakdowns

Interesting, I didn't expect him to actually sell. Then again what really is there left to do, did the ESPN lackey work, profited off the Boston sports guy trope, created Grantland and 30 for 30 series, HBO did flop but he followed it up with The Ringer. "New ESPN" is crazy hyperbole since it will never have the same reach across fans, there's also the fact there's zero black people working there so you're limited culturally, but there isn't another alternative out there like it. The Athletic is sports only and behind a paywall at that, The Ringer has some pop culture stuff going for them.

He has x millions to fall back on and can come and go on his podcast to talk sports if he still wants, so he's set. Everyone else is looking a little shaky, especially being left in the dark about a potential takeover.

I'm assuming Spotify will also put the network behind their subscription wall like the JBP so that'll be a change for Apple podcast users. I think the Budden deal expires in April so we'll see what happens there too since Spotify's buying entire networks.

I know one of his old Grantland writers who didn’t make the move to The Ringer went off about him on Twitter.

He gets his bread while Spotify now is responsible for dealing with The Ringer Union and their unhappiness about the situation. Pretty smart actually.

They were better on Podcast form before they made the pivot to television.
Most def, on television they by default had to change. Tho they do podcast exclusive content which you don't catch on the show. I remember when they first made the move to tv and it was coming on at like 2-3 o'clock in the morning, and I had to DVR those:pachaha:

I remember at one point there was a question of whether it would continue when Get Up was first announced and Rose was doing Countdown as well, but I guess they found a way to still make it work. Jacoby, his wife and probably had to make the move to NY.
Yeah they made Jacoby and his folks move from LA to NY:francis:

Every time he talks about moving it sounds like he misses LA because he said he had a house and he had to move his wife and kids into an apartment:russ:

He ain't got Jalen type paper to just be having 2 spots like that
