The idea that Giannis would sign an extension with the Spurs is preposterous. Every indication from every reasonable source in basketball journalism has linked Giannis to a large market like New York or Los Angeles.

If you’re Brian Wright you don’t make that trade unless you’re absolutely convinced it makes you a contender immediately. And there’s nothing in Wright’s history (or the Spurs) that suggests taking such a big risk.

That’s not to say that a trade for Giannis or Durant won’t happen. But it would signal a “chips all in” gamble in San Antonio. I struggle to see the wisdom in such a move for a 34-win team with an untested and largely unproven backcourt.

I'm going to play devils advocate here. Why should the Spurs trade for KD when they can just add a few choice pieces + youth and develop the core they have? Especially if it means to the same net result without the drama that a Kevin Durant would bring (through no fault of his own).

the Fox trade was an indicator that they'd like to speed up this process a little bit.

KD still can put up 25 ppg easily his next couple years and I legit think Victor game would grow even more learning and playing with KD

Milwaukee gonna want Castle and probably the #2 pick and I'm like fukk that

I feel you have to say the name of who that #2 pick will be so we can laugh harder. Who would possibly be worth passing on Giannis

I like KD, but you'd think after 6 years people would realize you cant just plug him on your team and expect your fortune to change over night. Evidently, yall really enjoy rewatching mediocre films that you've already seen.

Giannis would cost too much and there's no guarantee he would sign an extension in SA

I think he wants a bigger market
Spurs have enough where the cost is worth it and you will still be good, crying over #2 pick and Castle is stupid. Giannis, Wemby and Fox get you in contention right away.

Spurs thumbing their nose at KD as they play Keldon Johnson, Vassell, Sochan, Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley, Sandro mamukelashvili, old ass Chris Paul, etc :mjlol:

KD still a top scorer in the league on excellent efficiency. Just trade for him.

EDIT: outside of Castle and Victor, their "young guys" are all at least extension eligible or have been paid already. So idk what people are talking about when they say "development". Young teams are already making the playoffs. All Wemby's contemporaries are getting playoff experience (Cade, Amen/Ausar, Chet, Jdub, Morant, Jalen Green, Franz Wagner, Paolo, Haliburton). Being a young team isn't really an excuse anymore

Any 3/4 players but Vic, Castle, and Fox plus number 2 pick for Greek. For KD they get the same deal but we send them the 14. Anybody asks for Castle gets the dial tone. If Vic name gets brought up at all you go to their house and fist fight em.
Idk who yall think Castle is but if You can get Giannis (if he agrees to a deal) you ship his ass out

Ppl get too enamored with potential .

None of those players you mentioned are on teams that made any trades for mega stars that would require giving up a lot of draft pick compensation though.

The Spurs were 25th in defensive rating this season.
Not having Wemby for a chunk of the year hurt them, and I would guess that with a healthy Wemby the Spurs might have been a top 10 defense.

Giannis would help them on that end to some degree, but let's be very clear that adding Giannis means you likely have to be championship contending within 2 years. This guy is already 30 years old and I'd be concerned about a 7 footer, over 30, with 12 years of mileage on his body. You're not looking at a long term commitment with a guy like that. So no, I'm not sure it's this No Brainer that you give up a haul of players and the #2 overall draft pick for that guy.

That said, I do think the Spurs have to act on some level because there's really no justification to keep sending Keldon Johnson out there every night.

I think Brian Wright plays this conservatively. He takes Dylan Harper at #2. Then tries to find a way to package some veterans and maybe the 14th pick for depth. I also suspect that he'd kick the tires on someone trading Devin Vassell because I don't think he's got much of a ceiling, even if his floor is okay.

It’s gonna take both Castle and Harper to land Giannis… not sure why Spurs fans think otherwise.

because those teams drafted actual star-caliber guys. the spurs didnt outside of wemby

those teams also dont seem to have mutual interest between them and the star player. The Spurs do.

Also getting KD wouldnt "require giving up a lot of draft pick compensation" like you said

Kd need a ready now situation. He ness to go to any one of those Cali teams not based in Sacramento or Denver. All those are vet oriented teams who know what the plan is and how to execute/easily fit him in that offense
