if you've ever been to an event with thousands (hype music festiva moshpitl or something) and it doesn't naturally have chairs n shyt separating people somewhat, you'll realize very quickly literally ANYTHING could make the crowd move in one area, and that shyt ripples all the way over to you and you can't do a cotdamn thing about it but hope something tall is close by to climb up
all it takes is a couple mafukkas for fall and drag a couple others down with em

People get squished and tangled together, it's like a "spaghetti effect" and it becomes hard to pull people apart. The human body is very sensitive so anxiety and panic starts to set it, add to that the lack of space for your body to inhale/exhale and you get this. That video was very sad seeing someone try and pump life back into a lifeless body.

the alley where this happened is just past the KFC sign. that alley leads to a bunch of clubs and restaurants, i imagine the choke point of all the people on the main Itaewon street vs the people exiting the alley. I could def see this happening there.
