The 3DO would load the whole game into the memory, so you could take the disc out and keep playing. We'd rent the system for the weekend and Slam N Jam basketball for one night and take the game back and keep the system on for the whole weekend Slam N Jam was mind blowing at the time

The 3DO, Neo Geo, and CD-i were all at least twice that

Saturn was around the same price and came with a free game & extra controller.

the $299 sony was pushing was just for the console itself, no game at the time.

It mostly just "seemed", which is why sonys marketing ended up winning out
