Michelle McNamara, Crime Writer And Wife Of Patton Oswalt, Dies at 46

Crime writer Michelle McNamara, who was married to comedian Patton Oswalt, died at her home in Los Angeles.

McNamara, 46, died in her sleep Thursday night, the publicists of McNamara andOswalt confirmed, but neither gave a cause of death.

Oswalt’s publicist, Kevin McLaughlin, told The Associated Press that her death “was a complete shock to her family and friends, who loved her dearly,” to the AP.

McNamara made a name for herself for coverage of cold cases and breaking crime stories on her website, True Crime Diary, which she founded. In a 2011 interview, McNamara attributed her passion for offbeat crime stories to the discovery of fresh clues.

“It feels like the difference between looking forward or looking back,” McNamara explained. “It’s more interesting to me to be presented with a puzzle and given the opportunity to try and solve it.”

McNamara developed her writing skill at the University of Notre Dame and received a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Minnesota, AP reports.

While her last piece published on True Crime Diary was in June 2015, the Twitter account associated with the site was active just days before her death.

In 2005, McNamara married Oswalt, and the couple welcomed their daughter Alice in 2009. Oswalt’s work as a writer, stand-up comedian and actor has placed him among the elite in comedy. His resume includes “The King of Queens,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Magnolia” and “Ratatouille.”

Colleagues, friends and fellow entertainers shared their grief and condolences on Friday night.

:mjcry:Pay your respects brehs. Patton just had a new Netflix special premiere yesterday, had tweeted about Prince's death just yesterday. Total shock to their family :to:

That's gotta be some real :mjcry: shyt to wake up and find your spouse dead next too you. I didn't know anything about her really, but i do enjoy Oswalt. RIP to her and best wishes to her family.
To think, yesterday morning he woke up probably feeling great about his new special releasing. Watched it yesterday and this hurts even more because a large chunk of his special talks about life as a dad/family man, which, if you've seen any of his stand ups is quite an evolution from his earlier life. Seems like he had finally eased into that role quite comfortably only to have this happen out of nowhere :to:

That's terrible. My thoughts are with him and his family. I can't even imagine what it's like to go through something like that so suddenly. As others pointed out already, I know Patton has struggled with depression in the past and through his stand up it's been very clear how important his family life is to him. I hope he's alright.

That's actually the best way to go...You don't want Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other diseases that wipe all your memories, and then kill you...
He's talking about for the loved ones.

At least with the diseases you listed, your family can prepare.

If you go to sleep next to your healthy wife and you wake up and she's dead:mjcry:

feel so bad for patton :mjcry: he already has struggled with depression and he credited his wife and child for making him happy again :mjcry:

My sentiments exactly.

I'm not gonna say I'm a super-fan, but I like him, respect his opinion and think he's funny, and watching his stand-up in the past, he always talked about his wife and daughter, and how his wife made him a better person.

shyt is super sad.
