It always make sense to be armed, quick and observant of who you are in conflict with just in case they have a gun.

Have pepperspray as well for less extreme situations.

As soon as you see the other person reach toward their waist in an altercation you move your hand toward your gun and hook your thumb around your belt to simulate you adjusting your pants and once you actually see a gun being grabbed then you pull out yours fully.
