Definitely seems like something a small market arena would do, this company is only like 5 years old. The arena is owned by some holding company so maybe they needed the cash.

:mjlol:@ the name "staples center" being considered iconic

ya'll do realize the name comes from a office supply chain store, right?

Just be glad it’s not the Smoothie King Center…or since it’s LA, not the Reality Kings Playhouse:lolbron:

I miss when stadium names were after people, places or things, not businesses. The oldest business name stadium I can think of is Wrigley Field.

Fenway park: named after a neighborhood
Polo grounds
Three rivers stadium
Astrodome

even Milwaukee and atlanta had iconic County Stadiums.

These days, the business names take away from the aura. It’s part of the reason Yankee and Dodger Stadiums are legendary but you can’t tell me the new name of the World Series Champions Braves stadium.

the Georgia dome was a great name and I hate to say it but the superdome name was awesome as well. Now they both share the Mercedes’ Benz name. Trash.

side note, I like how Philly has all of their sports arenas close together.
