The general consensus on this game is that it's better than 4 but not better than 2 or 3. Seems to be a small scale game with real time on the fly dialog instead of a lot of cut scenes and it is also around 20-25 hours in length for a standard playthrough. It has a lot in common with Star Ocean 1 which I never finished. Sounds like people's main issue with the game is it's clearly a small scale reduced budget title.

I'll be buying this day one to support the developer even if I expect the price to drop quickly. The fact that Tri-Ace got to make another console game at all let alone another Star Ocean game gets my money.

Yeah I'm copping to show support. Seems like square is really trying to give the fans what they want and they should be rewarded for pushing this comeback this Gen.

Unrelated You planning on getting god eater 2 or attack on Titan?

Is this for real? That's fukkin unfortunate and disappointing. Not what's hot for a RPG like this

Both games have a realtime battle system but it isn't the same exact mechanics though.

jrpg is my favourite genre. First one I played was Vesperia on the 360 and I loved it. It didn't realy feel like it was button mashing at all.

Since then I played Graces and Xillia and couldn't get into either. They both felt like button mashing, and too easy. I even tried not to mash, and upped the difficulty. But it still felt that way. :manny:

For this Star Ocean. That supposed 25 hour length bugs me more than the controls

25-30 hours is fine for me, I don't have time for 100 hour JRPGs anymore. Makes me want to cop it more if anything.

All the same, I'm really only interested in Persona and Ys JRPG wise right now. I'll cop if it passes the Ciggaveli test though. :manny:

I kinda feel you. I'm down with Uncharted and about like that being short. I find myself sometimes not finishing longer games, that I woulda did sure finished back in the day. Still RPG's should be at least 50 hours. They need time to tell a story, and time to level up characters. 20 or 25 hours is almost unheard of for a jrpg. Especially one that costs full price. seems like half a game imo. I'll probably cop cause I'm a jrpg fan. But I'm gonna wait for a price drop

Im personally fine with a 20-25 hour playtime. Especially with all these RPGs dropping:whew:

And yeah, Ys has gotten me more to embracing that time length of JRPG.

Ys 8 needs to hurry up tho:wow: Vita or PS4 is the only decision to make when it comes to the US.
