Has anybody picked up Desperate Hours, the prequel novel? I'm only about halfway through it, but it's pretty good. It's everything I was hoping the show would be.

I don't buy at all the way they explained the Burnham/Spock relationship. Felt very half - assed.

Also some weird timeline issues. In "The Vulcan Hello" Georgeou suggests Burnham is ready to captain her own ship, but this book takes place only a year before that and Burnham had just become first officer, and that was only because the previous first officer left to captain his own ship and took the third -in- command wth him.

Finished the 3rd episode, I'm hooked. Never really fukked with Star Trek even though my parents are big fans of it. Kinda just peeped it out cuz of ol girl from Walking Dead, but I might check out the older series later

It has all the ToS elements. Michael is a combination of Spock and Kirk, and I love it. The easter eggs alone had me

Not one fukking character on this show is likable, and up until the last five minutes, which felt like they forced a bunch of "heartfelt" moments in after the rest of the episodes having characters loathing each other, this felt like another episode of Star Trek Galactica. Also, this is like the second or third time already that we've had a "Burnham disobeys direct orders and does whatever she wants, but it's OK because she was right in the end!" storyline, and it's already getting old.

Lorca's old ship being captured by the Klingons but he escapes and blows it up so they "wouldn't have to endure Klingon torture"? Man, fukk you.

I also don't buy whatever the hell "development" they were doing with Saru. He was freaking out about being in command, but by the end he declines to look at his review because "I know what I did." What? What did you do? Stamets could've died because you because you wouldn't listen to him and Burnham about the Spores, and you just lucked into the fact that Lorca and Ash escaped the Klingon vessel. All Saru did was not blow up the Klingon ship they took.

Hopefully the ending marks a turning point for the characters, and they can actually be sympathetic.

Rainn Wilson was great tho.
