I just read it’s gonna be set 5 years after Battle of Exegol

Already hate it. Lean on the Star Wars everyone loves from the original trilogy. So many original stories to be told still there with actual beloved vehicles. The new trilogy has been nothing but a mess

It's amazing to me how people are so torn about this.

I'm on the camp of leaving the OG trilogy timeline behind, we've had enough content about it and they are not recasting Leia, Luke and Han to post ROTJ stories so everything you do in that timeline is restrained by the big plot we already know about (Anakin breaks bad, the Empire forms, the Rebellion is formed, the Rebelling wins).

Sure, you can still make dope stories if you have elite level writing like Andor had but I much rather have completely new stories that aren't attached to anything. Nothing good comes from tackling "beloved vehicles" these days, people get upset no matter what. So do the easier thing and work from a timeline that has no predetermined end and you can create whatever the hell you want from there.

There’s never enough OT content. I think we’ve seen that very clearly since Disney acquired the IP. The biggest hits were OT timeline stuff. Tbh I respect your opinion but Star Wars is at its best when George Lucas at least came up with the ideas and other people fleshed it out. From the Clone Wars to the OT is Star Wars at its peak. I have no faith in Disney doing anything completely original and good

Well, Skeleton Crew fits the bill in this. It is definitely intended to be a family-friendly show, but there is some good storytelling, especially once Jod comes into the picture. While Andor wasn't completely original, as it uses themes of the rebellion and how evil the empire is. But the execution is the big thing because they could have botched it like some of the other shows. If we have more of Andor-level execution, it doesn't matter the time period.

While yes, stuff like Acolyte is awful. But even stuff like Obi-Wan and Boba Fett was awful as well. I just care for good stories. Of course the OT has a good foundation, but we have seen Disney achieve bad stories within that.

Mando S1 was also good and was pretty original. Things did get messy towards the end of S2 into S3, though.

I didn’t finish Skeleton Crew but it was a decent campy kids thing, so I’ll give you that. But to my point, Andor was good bc of the writing, but the time period the story took place in mattered more than maybe you’re alluding to in your post. The emotions of the rebellion and Rogue One were all intertwined. That’s what helped draw people to the show in the first place. I don’t think it works as well in a completely new storyline.
