You remembering shyt wrong. Carmen didnt leave Rico for Zander, she left him to become a pilot. And even then she only said that she doesnt know when she'll see him again if she is going career instead of the required 1 year of service. Doesnt mean she didnt want to be with him, she just wanted to be a pilot. Rico is the one that cut her off because he was upset.
