In the grand scheme of things, they're just doing what Disney is forcing them to do so, so I wouldn't put the blame on the ESPN for the layoffs. People had been complaining about the MNF commentary for years, so I can totally see why they'd throw them the bag to solve the problem and get some consistency.
They'd do the same thing to get that TNT crew if the opportunity ever arose to do so even if it meant replacing SAS, Greeny and Wilbon on set.

He’s their Ryan Seacreast. The boring, safe choice that you know will do his job and go home without causing an issues behind the scenes.
