How many people under 40 watch late night shows?

When was the last time you heard anyone reference a bit or an interview on Late Night?

2M people sounds good until you realize there are youtube creators that have more views on their content while using .05% of that shows budget
I mean people swear Fox News is this news giant and that’s kinda what they average in viewership numbers. 2 million is still 2 million. That’s a lot in 2025. It’s like how people have been convinced that under 100,000 album sales in a week is great now but cats were doing half a million to a million first week once upon a time. CBS is just dropping shyt making legendarily stupid moves :snoop:

Cacs reference Fox News all the time, they talk about it all the time. Fox pays some of those people more than any actor/personality gets paid on any of the networks. The reason is because Fox has better viewership and ratings consistently across timeslots than any other cable network.

When was the last time you heard anyone reference a late/tonight show? When was the last time you saw viral clip on a performance or interview? When was the last time you said "let's see what Colbert or Fallon have going on tonight"?

Fox News has better ratings as a cable channel than a free to watch national network has during a timeslot when 90% of Americans aren't working, but aren't asleep yet.

Thats not a good sign when measuring audience interest, costs, and impact.

I haven’t watched late night consistently since Conan got dropped. Colbert is okay but it’s not my humor really. If he’s getting 2 million at 11:30 pm though that’s fukking huge in this era. Again, Fox looks strong in a time where these networks are battling for a small ass audience. They’re winning obviously but it’s not like they’re getting 30 million viewers at one time and shyt. It’s funny, I’m a news guy and I had to cover an event where a lot of MAGA folks were and some white dude asked me about Jesse Watters. I literally had no idea who he was.. looked it up and he was the host of the 8pm show. I was like where tf have I been?! :russ: That’s how much I care about Fox News :mjlol:

You’re right though.. nobody is really talking about late night shows like that

I was a huge fan of the Colbert Report.
This show was not the same guy though

I agree. The Colbert Report was hilarious. I was locked in more on that than the Daily Show. Had the perfect amount of satire because of the popularity of Bill O’Reilly at the time.

Once he took over the late night show, I wasn’t nearly as interested anymore.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
I feel you, I fukks with both tho. Jon is funnier that's probably why but Stephen is no where near as bipartisan as him so a lot of ppl dont like him because he comes off too left sometime. He has his moments tho
That’s why I’ve always respected Jon Stewart. Yeah, he leans mostly left and goes hard at the right — but unlike a lot of his peers, he’s never been afraid to call out the left when they’re screwing up too.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve sat down and watched a late-night show since right after the election last year. I usually just catch the segments on YouTube. So while this cancellation might have some political motives, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s CBS cutting costs too. Probably a mix of both.

Talk shows are starting to be a thing of the past.

Celebrityism is simply not scaling well.

Especially celebrityism that costs a ton to maintain and run a show on.

A lot of these shows surrounding famous people and talking about or to famous people as their business need to be weary.

I think it’s a combination of things: social media, streaming, A.I, etc. are a part of it.

Got to remember, back in the days the entertainment was seen as the lowest rung in society because it simply wasn’t a necessity.

In many ways, entertainment is a bubble market.
