Sacramento police fatally shot a 22-year-old black man holding a cell phone that was mistaken for a weapon.

Stephon Clark was in the backyard of the home he shared with his grandparents and some of his siblings when he was killed, Clark’s brother told the Sacramento Bee.

The police department said officers were responding to a report that someone was breaking car windows nearby.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot-1 man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants hiding in a backyard.

Deputies told police the suspect had used a “toolbar” to break another home’s window.

Deputies in a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department helicopter spotted Clark in a backyard, and told deputies he had shattered a window with a tool bar.

Deputies instructed officers on the ground to the man’s location.

Police approached Clark, who they initially believed was armed with a gun, though no firearm was recovered from the scene, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Police said Clark held an “object” that he “extended in front of him” as he approached two officers.

“The officers believed the suspect was pointing a firearm at them. Fearing for their safety, the officers fired their duty weapons striking the suspect multiple times,” the police department said in a release. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Monday that the only item found near Clark’s body was a cell phone.

Sequita Thompson, Clark’s grandmother, said she was home when gunshots rang out.

“The only thing that I heard was pow, pow, pow, pow, and I got to the ground.” she told the Sacramento Bee.

She said that neither she nor her husband heard police issue commands before hearing gunfire.

Thompson said she was interviewed for several hours before police told her Clark had been shot.

“I opened that curtain and he was dead,” she said. “I started screaming.”

The two officers involved in the shooting were wearing body cameras. The department plans on releasing footage from the cameras along with video and audio from the law enforcement helicopter.

Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

whats there to judge? a cell phone dont look like a gun + the cop never gave the man to even talk.. literally just rushed him talking about "gun gun gun" ... I didnt hear the victim say a word in that body cam footage.. didnt even give him a chance to say "its a cell phone"

these cops adrenaline rushing so much they fired 20 shots into this innocent person and still asking the lifeless body to show them his hands its fukking disgusting :scust:

cops dont PREVENT shyt, they are pretty much useless, at least 90% of them.

few examples of how useless they are;

1. had a lil scuffle outside the club just this weekend. 1vs1, the people not even big.. they were arguing for a lil.. all this infront of a cop... the cop coulda easily got out the car and told them go their seperate ways (prevented a fight). He didnt. He waited til they started fighting and waited for 2-3 more cop cars for back up.. if they cant even diffuse a drunk argument between 2 150 lb people then they are not fit for the job :manny: what if one got their face stomped in? all cause the cop was too bytch to get out his car??

2. when the NYPD protested last year because they felt the mayor didnt have their back in a cop shooting, almost the entire NYPD force didnt go into work. Crime did not drop (or increase). We could save billions a year by cutting 90% of the police task force since most of them are useless and dont effect anything anyway :manny:

3. ive never heard any of the people I knew that went on to become police or chp say its to "protect and serve" its always for the "pay and benefits" :camby: its too easy to become a police officer and its too lucrative that it attracts too many wrong people to the job.
I just wanna see it for myself. The audio is fine but the video part it's too dark

My view is, you fight fire with fire..
The officers behind this, need to be paid a visit at home and taken out. Until that happens regularly, these cacs will persist. A cac only responds to you doing something bigger than what he did, anything less wont affect shyt.

They've normalized killing innocent black men now to a point that this won't even get the same coverage it would've got 4-6 years ago
Breh they fired 41 shots at Amadou Diallo in 99.
Cops got off.
Killing black people was normalized before they brought them over in the slave ships.

America has a fixation on race that will never go away. In other countries different races are acknowledged even disrespected but they ain't straight up shooting people with no repercussions. But in America regardless of the president: black white Democrat Republican a racial divide will always exist because there is an insecure mentality that wants it to exist.

Where's the toolbar at? If he had it like those cops said they'd a found it. They all deserve to rot in hell for killing Stephon. Rip to the young man. Another set of babies lose their dad to scared cops.

I dunno bro the story is spreading fast on social media. It took a whole week for the Mike Brown story to blow up. This story will blow up by the weekend.
