I have XBMC + 1channel plugin, as for the NBA I use Ballstreams which was $89.99 for a full calendar year with the option to suspend service, so when the summer rolls around I'll cut it off and resume when the season starts. So I get a season and a half for 90 
, HD streams and the ability to go back and watch games from months ago.
As for 1channel, streams for shows are up within an hour after they finish airing. And I use my parents HBO Go password as well.

I don't need to pay for the NBA though, there's firstrow for that but I don't like the setup and there is no XBMC plugin for it that I know of, where as Ballstreams has one.
I don't even use HBO Go unless I'm on vacation
, for TV shows and movies I use XBMC+1channel almost exclusively and I can get live channels through Navi-X.

Firstrow is not as convenient and reliable as cable.
Look, y'all happy with your setup, that's cool, be merry. But if you're wondering why there's those internet savvy folks who still have cable, it's cuz of convenience and reliability.

I can't do it. I have Netflix, HBO GO and will have WWE Network also but I still need them HD sports. I can work around the NBA or MLB but I need NFL on Sundays in HD. If I could get Sunday Ticket or maybe RedZone without cable, I would cut asap.
It's reliable enough that you don't need to pay for it.
If they had a XBMC plugin I'd use it
Xbmc + 1 channel is reliable and convenient, here's what the setup looks like - 
It has nothing to do with Internet savvy and everything to do with not wasting on a service that isn't really necessary anymore.
i dont have cable and i get the fox, nbc, abc, cbs etc for free. everyone can get it for free if you buy a HD antenna

the HD antenna is waaaaaayyyyyy clearer than any comcast, timewarner, vios channel. you wont believe how clear i watch football games on sunday
