That's like saying that Western Civilization (white people) are the greatest athletes because they do well in the Olympics...until you look closely and see the athletes who compete are mostly black but just represent America (western civilization). 
Most of the white people "in shock" are more in shock that he said that publicly.
Truthfully, his comment is dumb for a lot of reasons. When black (or other melanated people) contribute to society, then those contributions are credited to the WHOLE society. The black man who invented the traffic light, the black man who pioneered open heart surgery...shiit, George Washington Carver invented like a million things. I could go on and on.
No one in the twitter comments or in this thread debunked his bullshiit statement citing all the things that "Western Civilization" stole from melanated people or people of other civilizations (Ancient Kemet).
