I remember the '96 draft like it was yesterday.I got out of school, went to the park, and played a couple of pick up games. After that, me and a couple of guys mobbed over to the local pizzeria to grab a slice. They had the draft playing live on the big screen, so we just sat there and watched.

That was the first time in my life where I actually watched some of those guys in college.I used to not give a shyt about college B Ball.I wouldn't know who nikkaz was until they got drafted.

That year(late '95/'96)I got caught up in the Stephon Marbury/Slam Magazine hype.If you remember, Slam Mag used to hype up Starbury something terrible.Only player I seen get that kind of hype coming out of HS was Bron.

But yeah, I just had to see Marbury play.Watched his first game at GT...from then on, I got hooked on college B Ball. That year, I remember watching Ray Allen, Iverson, Camby etc etc.

But as a Suns fan, I was looking for a pg to groom behind KJ.He was getting old/battling injuries, so I thought it was the perfect time to find his replacement.

My sleeper pick that year was "this white boy from Santa Clara".I remember telling my nikkaz in the pizzeria that day "This Nash dude is underrated. He's like Mark Price mixed with John Stockton".The thing I remember most about Nash in college was his J.I swear it seemed like that muthafukka never missed.

I already knew since we were picking 15, we wouldn't have a shot at Marbury/Iverson, so Nash was the dude I keyed in on.I knew he would be around @ 15, but I was worried that the Suns were gonna take Kobe(I just couldn't bring myself to trust a HS wing a that time), but when the Hornets drafted him @ #13, I was 100% sure the Suns would draft Nash.I knew how Jerry Colangelo had a penchant for shooters & pg's---Nash fit both criterias. On top of that, he was white.I know how they get down in AZ.

The shyt just made sense.I called it before it happened.Funny shyt about it, none of my boys even knew who Nash was. They looked at me like :dahell:" while I was fist pumping during the pick.like "who's this obscure white boy, breh?"

And now it's come full circle:to:

GOAT laker PG :banderas:

Those 1st round picks and contract were worth it. Hope Jim and Mitch can keep pulling moves like this in the next 3yrs .... :wow:

Lakers should have never traded for him in the first place.

Better off keeping those picks and finding a PG there or building up your depth.
