pitchers are finicky like house cats and place kickers. who was the pitcher who complained about having to wear a throwback uniform because of it's fit hindered his pitching motion, so he cut it up?

even if half of them were actually smart enough buy into the idea, they still wouldn't do it based on traditional sports stubbornness and male bravado.

Short of making them wear catcher's gear and have a batting practice cage in front of them, there's no real way around the danger of a pitch like that coming right back at you.

Short of that, I think the players will fight any mandated helmet for pitchers.
