I'm thinking they are waiting for next year when everything runs out on the 26 of December so they don't have to backpay everyone on pua, peuc and unployment
It doesn’t matter if it runs out or not. They will back pay those whose benefits were exhausted, because one of the key reasons a stimulus is necessary is to help people pay the rent and mortgages that have built up due to the moratoriums.

Because there is absolutely zero purpose otherwise? A driving impetus for a new stimulus has been to extend the unemployment and shore up the loss of income of those who were collecting the PUA. If they don’t back pay the expired unemployment that ended in August without forgiving the debt owed to landlords, we’d be facing the same economic catastrophe that current stimulus talks are aimed at addressing. Maybe they will forgive the rent that is due. I’m not as optimistic of that happening as you might be.

Retroactive payments to August, when the federal benefit expired, has always been included in every proposal by Democrats. There is no chance of them signing onto any bill that excludes that. There wouldn’t be a point to the stimulus, then, as it is meant to help make sure the 12 million people presently on unemployment continue collecting it. Not sure where your confusion is.

I mean, as has been mentioned in recent articles, the amount of back pay grows as long as a stimulus isn’t passed. I’m not stating it as if I am confident it will happen, but some form of back pay has to occur so people can pay the rent and mortgages that are about to be collected. They won’t be able to afford that on just a simple extension of unemployment. And I am almost certain that retroactive payments to the end of Trump’s executive order (September? I'm not sure) was offered by Mnuchin, but Pelosi and Schumer wanted it to go to August.

I guess I just don’t see any point to a stimulus that only extends unemployment instead of addressing the bonus that was lost in August. That bonus was how those unemployed were able to pay their rent and other debt. Unemployment, by itself, isn’t enough to cover that and Democrats have always stressed that fact.

Vaccine about to drop. Any stimulus will probably just be a one time check
You think so? It’ll take a couple months before it can be widely distributed, and that still doesn’t fix the damage that’s already been done.

People in food lines etc

After this run off on Jan 5, if something isn’t done, I can see pure fukkery happening

Especially with the current admin returning unused funds :francis:
