Good points, all. Even if we think about or own history.... we'd be colonizing other planets by now if not for the dark ages... a period of over 800 years when science and technology was considered heresy and anathema. Granted, the Muslim empire continued to advance technologically during that time but there's no question that it was a setback for humanity.

The "dark ages" were only in Europe. There were universities in Mali empire and the Arab, Indian and Chinese civilizations were flourishing.

The scenario you paint would apply just as well if humans from 2000 years ago were able to fathom life we have today. Imagine telling those people that they could live in a time where most of the ailments that cause them harm and death were cured, the answer to any question they may have can be answered in seconds, we can fly anywhere in the world in hours, you see that moon up there we can go there, hell something as simple as a refrigerator would blow their minds.

Those people would wonder why some race that advanced wouldnt have moved beyond being hostile, yet here we are.

They wouldn't travel that distance to just say hello and neither would we.

You know at one point the distance between Spain and the America's was so vast people couldn't fathom traveling that far, so much so that they thought you would simply fall off the Earth if you tried. When those people discovered the Americas they didn't just say hello, they immediately started taking as much as they could, signaled for the cavalry back home to hurry up and come so they could take more, and proceeded to kill and take advantage of the native population. It would be the same thing happening to us only worse.

Wrong. People have been traveling the globe for thousands of years without conflict and they did it for many reasons long before the Spanish even knew what a boat was. Knowledge, trade, etc. A species that has mastered space travel would see zero benefit in seeking out other planets to take over esp inferior ones. What sense would it make to send a armada billions of light years away to a blue dot in hopes of starting a conflict. Logically once we master space travel, the next step would be to seek out other inhabited planets and humanoid life forms, not for conflict but to see if we are truly alone.

You can also call upon other religious figures, like Buddah, etc., and the abduction will also stop (supposedly). It about calling upon love, light, and peace, regardless of what you believe in. Equifinality and such

I don't understand the need to see aliens visit us. Any race that has the ability to navigate space and visit earth would have the ability to enslave or outright kill all of us and take this planet for themselves.
