Yeah, testicles, lol. I don't know how true it is or not, but the lesson I got from it is you have to always learn things for yourself.

When I learned about the Apocrypha (the collection of books missing from the KJ Protestant Bible), that's when I started questioning everything. There are books included in the Catholic Bible that aren't used in the Protestant one, though both are factions of Christianity...how the hell does that work? There were people who made this decision. Once you realize this, you realize the Bible, as it is now, was likely created to serve someone else's agenda.

OAN, I believe a benefit of traditional African religions being passed orally was to prevent stuff like this. Language is fluid and changes within the context of time in which it is spoken. And if a religion is being passed orally, there is never a question about what things mean. It is always being updated to reflect the environment of its practitioners, if that makes sense.

Once you start putting things on paper, throughout the ages, it is impossible to determine what the original author hoped to convey, which is why I think we have so much grief caused by misunderstanding ideas from a modern perspective. For example, you've got millions of people really believing the Bible advocates beating your kids because of the "spare the rod" verse in Proverbs, when, in the rest of the Bible, "rods" are things carried by those in power as a symbol of their spiritual knowledge and strength. They weren't beating people with them; they were leading them, using them to work miracles and do the impossible. Which suggests the "rod" you are not supposed to spare kids, if you love them, is guiding them to be spiritually strong and capable. I'm surprised people don't question this, but it seems to be a symptom of our conditioning.

Plus, writing can be corrupted and misused by those in power to serve themselves. Remember, everyone couldn't read when the Bible was written; only those in power could, so they could tell the people whatever they wanted concerning what the original texts were actually saying.

I also think this is why Jesus told parables - oral education which could be spread amongst princes and paupers alike without the danger of misinterpretation and corruption.

On a grander scale, look at how, even now, we've been conditioned to consider knowledge only "legitimate" if it is written down (think written contracts versus oral agreement and handshake) or comes from without from an official authority, so those who hold the pen and a title hold the power. Yet, poor people, children, mentally ill people, etc. have moments of lucidity all the time where Source speaks thru them (actually we all do)...but since they aren't official and/or can't write, their contributions are dismissed.

My pastor introduced a book called the seven keys to our church bible study. The book basically offers a better understanding of the bible by showing you that some of the English translation of the bible are questionable due to lack of context.

Op is right most of the English bibles we have now are translation of other translations. Additionally none of them take into account the fact that this originally took place centuries earlier in different cultures with different traditions and figures of speech. The book points you to a direct Aramaic to English translation. It's a good jumping off point to someone that wants a deeper understanding of the bible but doesn't have time to learn multiple languages.

I'm going go have to break out the reps for this one.
That's a dope post. so much to digest. So many lessons to learn. THIS IS THE KIND OF LEVEL OF DETAIL THAT CHURCHES SHOULD BE ON. NEVER STOP SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH. Especially black chuches because people have used this against black people to justify certain messed up things.

I think there are still some practitioners of a version of Christianity that use oral traditions to this day. they don't use the bible. I think its either Egypt or Ethiopia is where one would find them.

Certain topics are just not discussed enough. Nicea. Apocrypha. The theory of the mysterious and hypothetical Q document. Etc.

I have to agree with the bolded part 100%. Thats pure facts.

On the non bolded parts though, if the book does indeed state that, i would be very uncomfortable with it as well. I just want to get a little deeper into it though.....

There is a dark side to humanity. I wish it wasnt there but it is there. from our current perspective as decent human beings, Women get shytted on throughout history. It happened in the past, it is happening in the present and it will happen in the future. Call it the curse of humanity, or just call it humanity. i dont know. Maybe misoginy is just the natural state of things. Men shyt on and mistreat women. It feels like that's just the way it is. Im yet to understand why. it makes me uncomfortable to even think of accepting it but thats where i am right now. Donald trump abused tonnes of white women and yet they voted for him. WHY. Part of me feels like this is just who we are. Im not defending it, im just saying maybe the truth is just ugly sometimes. For decent people like me and you we will always be uncomfortable with this, but if there is a higher being watching us all from a plane of higher existence, his views are going to be different. i understand that. When i was a kid i hated my dad for sending me to bed at 8pm. Now i get why. he wanted me to get a good nights rest. I wanted to watch TV. He had a different perspective that i coulndt understand back then.

Slavery too has always existed in the past throughout civiliations, and it exists today and it will exist in the future. (I always like to differentiate slavery though because not all slavery is the same. Slaves in middle Africa could work hard, free themselves, rise up the social strata and even eventually marry the daughter of their slaveowners. It was purely economic and as a result of warring nations. But the slaves had the power to change. There was no racism, no emotional oppression, no caste system, Slavery in America was pure evil. It wasnt just economic, evil white people sought to ruin men's spirit and thoroughly destroy every aspect of their psyche and community.) Hell people that work 9-5 at walmart and mickey Ds can be called slaves. Maybe thats just who we are and maybe thats what the book is alluding to. Again it makes me uncomfortable to think this way but I dont expect the truth of this world to be acceptable to my delicate sensibilities all the time. There is gonna be some harsh shyt.
Evil men with charisma have always been able to blind the masses with powerful words and stirring emotions, pandering to normally suppressed beliefs. It enables their supporters to sweep facts, decency, logic, history, compassion and basic understanding to the side.

Compound that with the fact that many individuals are unwilling to place themselves in the shoes of others, to see as others see, a misguided sense of superiority enforced through media, your geographical location, your government, and yes, it is easy to see how dark humanity can be.

It appears that although our technology improves by the day, our ability to empathize and care for each other diminishes.
