I'm not even a Tekken fan, but a new black character in a franchise that consistently lags behind Street Fighter in popularity had to come out of the gate hammering everything in his path just to grab attention. I suspect the devs did that on purpose, because Tekken as a franchise is veeeery late to waking up to just how many black gamers are into fighting games. SF has major characters in Balrog, DeeJay and Dudley and there's a pretty deep player base there as a result

Tekken consistently outsells street fighter. Street fighter is just older and more "revolutionary".

Balrog has looked like some sambo out of a racist 1930s cartoon since street fighter 4.

That's true and for a while his design resembled mike tyson, but then they changed his design to look like some bug eyed sambo.

But I've seen good Balrog art I liked, but the buggy eyed bucking shyt.. while the other characters are drawn with better facial symmetry.. In real life Black Men and Women have crazy good proportionate faces and bodies and great frames. Most black men got Square appealing faces. Steve Fox is a boxer and doesnt look crazy

Tekken has greater all time sales than street fighter in a shorter time. It was the best selling fighting game franchise ever prior to smash Brothers recently passing it.

Tekken 7 outsold Street fighter 5.
