naw bruh... just trying to get people to use logic and they got emotional... logically unless i am part of the 1% of the world that is trained by nasa (or good at using celebrity smileys and getting p*ssy on message boards), I really dont know shyt about space...

that's just silly. basically what you're saying is science is a big conspiracy. but science is no secret. it puts all the info out there for you to see

so you know nothing of space? What about oh let's say Alaska, you ever been there? If not how do you know it's real? How do you know what the air in Alaska is like?

Your whole approach to learned knowledge is ..awkward to me. Basically you're saying that if someone were to read a book written by one of those 1% then what they learned in that book is only a theory because they didn't do the research themselves?

naw bruh... Reading a book doesnt make anything a fact... And im not sure if going to alaska, which is something every person can do if they desire, is comparable to going to space. Being that space cant be reached by the other 99 percent of the population...

A good example is the ocean, which is a mystery, for many of the same reasons that space is... How about you tell me about the oceans floor? Tell me what goes on there... You dont... because you dont know anything about the oceans floor other than what you seen in a movie, which is the same with space...

And even if the 1% wrote a book... It would just be his personal theory... that he proves through some variation of the scientific method, and then publishes a conclusion that he found, that can be accepted or rejected by his peers... Doesnt make it fact tho... there are not many FACTS about space...

but i feel in order to "win" an arguement you people are unwilling to accept the fact that you don't know something.

we actually see this argument a lot. Timbo was recently using it:

What are you showing me, friend? Is that how you discovered Jupiter? Please give a more detailed explanation. How did you, personally, calculate the mass of Jupiter? What method did you use and how did you check your answer?

NAME A BOOK YOU OWN AND NOT ONE YOU JUST GOOGLED, BROTHER!

lol i dont own a book saying space is theory... you got me there brother...

now which one did you read that told you that the 9 planets, the make up of stars, the mass of jupiter, the workings of the universe is undeniably fact... and cant ever be disputed or changed...

lemme kno, brother

I BELIEVE IT, DUDE!

NOBODY MADE SUCH AN ABSOLUTIST CLAIM, BROTHER! LIKE CLINT EASTWOOD, YOU ARE ARGUING AGAINST SOMEONE WHO ISN'T THERE!

THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF COLLECTED AND SCRUTINIZED EVIDENCE THAT LEADS TO CURRENT CONCLUSIONS ABOUT ASTRONOMICAL PHENOMENA, BROTHER! NO ONE PRESENTED THIS AS INFALLIBLE GOSPEL, CHAMP!

Let me ask you then.
What do you know?
Are you able to know anything you don't personally do?

I've never sky jumped before but i KNOW that if I don't open my chute i'm fuked.

I've never shoved a fork in an electric socket but based on what I know of electricity because of reading i KNOW i'm gonna get shocked. (I guess I must know some type of...magic...then right? I mean how can i know if I've never done it.)

How about gravity? Have you ever calculated earths gravity? I mean actually done the experimentation to arrive at the pull on objects? I know people who have NEVER done this, and yet...they know gravity is there. OMGWTF!!! HOW?

:snoop:

Clearly you cannot learn everything from a book, but yes if someone went down to the ocean floor and discovered it was made of pudding, they too samples over 1/3 of the ocean floor and confirmed that YUP it's pudding, does that mean I could never say i know the ocean floor is made of pudding?

Actually the ironic part is that per your line of ...thought...
I'm equally as accurate saying the ocean floor is made of pudding as I am saying it's made of dirt.

And you clearly see no problem with this?

Stop posting right now, right this instant and go to a library, ask for the science section and read, read until you can't read no more.

know one's claiming anything is an "undeniably fact". that's your strawman

btw, there's 8 planets

...you do know you can take a telescope and look for yourself. You do also know that you can actually measure the effects of gravity in space and who the planets interact with eachother...you do know this right...right?

You do know that we can measure light waves, micro waves, and a variety of other waves to arrive at certain conclusions right?...Right?

1, 2, 3, X, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
2+2=X
X=1+3

please tell me you can solve for X...i mean i know theoretically x could = turtle, but based LOGIC you can safely arrive at x= what number...?

There you have it,

I figured this was your stance along time ago......

It's basically being skeptic of the skeptics. People, lie all the time, to personally benefit. :manny:

Because of the possibility of there being flaws and made-up rhetoric, I keen an open mind, but depending on it's origin, I accept most of the information as true.

Your way of thinking is the exact opposite, which you're entitled too. It's part of being a skeptic.....

As far as space is concerned, obviously, the "scientist" & "engineers" must have solid facts and calculations, if their able send satellites, probes, shuttles, rovers, and people into space.

We've seen what happens when miscalculation occur.

Space Shuttle Challenger disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mars Surveyor '98 program - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does human error, yes. But more often than, not I accept it as fact. Is there a possibility that there are lies, in the theory or observation, sure. But at least it gives you something to build on. Simply not investigating, or having the intuition to ponder about this facts, is counterproductive.

Which is what you're bringing to this thread. :beli:

All scientist are, curious people.
