Streaming music revenue beat CDs in the US last year for the first time

Numbers behind the scenes is that a play is worth about 6 cents last I heard.

I am not sure if that's what the artists get or if those 6 cents are split up which is crazy to think about if it is.

Yeah that was Taylor Swift's beef.

IMO she should have just negotiated for a higher rate instead of going about it the way she did. If she could have negotiated about 8 cents per play...then the next would want 9 cents...then 10 cents...etc etc.

These people don't know how to negotiate, her and her team were just worried about themselves.

I'm an audiophile so I continue to buy cds and vinyl. The thought of listening to a degraded quality in some cheap ass headphones disgusts me.

When i see people walking around listening to music thrpugh their phone with some cheap ass ear buds I cringe. How can you listen to music like that?

Artists really get paid off touring. That 6 cents isn't a bad deal. shyt I'd give my music away free and use that pub to pack arenas.

I have no clue why artists don't give music away free and collect ad revenue. Jay-Z went platinum before his album dropped by basically selling a million copies to Samsung who gave em away free with the purchase of a phone. Maybe people don't trust Jigga's business savvy.

Exactly man I tried to explain this to a dudeat work on why I still buy cd's and use my ipod in the car/gym still and all he could say was
" Mane.... fukk all that sound quality stuff you talking about mane... It all sound the same to me on my phone... connected to my car... wherever"

I just can't justify paying $9.99 for an album on itunes when I know its not in Lossless format and I don't physically own it.

She's different though, she can actually sell records in today's age so she doesn't need them

I remember in the 90s every decent artist was going double plantinum, those days are long gone
