The game has essentially become a marathon with how much effort you need to use on defense. In general, less rest on possessions than ever. That's why depth has become such an integral part of this postseason.

Only so long you can run with short rotations. Pun intended.
Fans today don’t grasp just how much mileage players are accumulating.

It doesn’t seem like they’re defending because you don’t see these old ISO one on one moments.

But the way guys are rotating and anticipating offensive players moves and passes, that all adds up. When I watch these breakdown videos, they’re highlighting these defenders closing 2-3 passing lanes in like 2 seconds that you might not even notice when watching live. Especially because you’re so conditioned to just follow the basketball.

It took me really locking in and watching a lot to really appreciate not just the defenses but the offenses more too. I hated on how many threes are being shot but at the same time the average D is so good that the offenses might as well shoot semi-contested threes over long semi-contested 2s. And the majority of those 3s take a lot of passing and shifting of the D just to get off. The game is being played at an extremely high level right now.

Also, offenses are so fukking good now. Fans don’t grasp that. You used to be able to crowd the paint to stop players. You can’t do simple shyt to stifle teams anymore.
