For my friends what other options do they have? Those are just minimum payments there....you want to play the game, you have to get capital from somewhere to do it....

Really wealthy people seldom mention their wealth period...
Throughout modern history debt has always been the catalyst of each financial crisis. Paying off debt slowly is highly speculative and very risky. They have options breh. Yes, live like a monk now then, live like a king later.

"I majored in screen writing and I don't want to major in debt"
"I majored in art history and Italian and I don't want to major in debt"
"I majored in environmentalism art and I don't want to major in debt"
:laff::laff::laff::laff:

What the fukk is environmentalism art? lol. Morons.

There are some majors worth going to school and getting loans for. Med school would be one of them. Y'all list some more...

STEM, Law, Medicine, CPA, or trades which often bypass loans by becoming an apprentice. Anything else is foolish...

They need to take a hard look at their monthly expenses and do a budget. See where all the money's going, cut out unnecessary expenses/bills, throw it at debt. Again Dave Ramsey is a great start. His podcasts are free.

They don't seem to hampered by it, their motto is "you can't take it with you to the other side" which I can agree with to an extent.

As I mentioned earlier, they are cool with it and are diligent folks, a few promotions and they will be good. The fact they drop 5k on loans + expenses and not flinch says a lot...but that is their business to attend to....

The problem is tons of grads don't have this type of plan after graduation, or a high-paying job...

The trades, scholarships, and realistic majors need to be taught to school kids....

The stories I hear from Financial Aid and Admissions Counselors ....:snoop::to::ufdup::merchant:

They were in the top of their classes mind you and diligent with their studies. Again, this is a rarity. This mentality of "Live like a monk and pay it back asap" doesn't apply in the real world.
Actually it does. Getting rid of debt is a key factor in wealth building. No matter how much money you make the principles are the same

I agree that debt reduction is important, but not at the sacrifice of the moment or enjoying the fruits of your labor. Money and finances are a personal choice to me, so as long as you adhere to your financial obligations you should be able to splurge once in a while.

This debt concept is clearly not explained as part of financial education in universities. Government jobs are another way for new grads to save with an automatic pension and loan forgiveness.

One of my good friends worked as a maintenance man but got his MBA in Accounting and paid for $0...Now is a partner a Accounting firm...Tuition remission works if you take pretty much any job in a college...

Hell, they can uber around and get some bread too...

Debt reduction is the key to building wealth though. The whole point is not having loads of debt to begin with. But if you do have debt to rid of it as soon as possible. It frees up your money and allows more of your money to work for you. Sacrificing feel good moments is a part of getting ahead. It's being an adult. Enjoying the fruits of your labor is great as long as you're not being in debt to others. Think about owing your parents a bunch of money. Why would you not wanna pay them off asap vs only paying a little and splurging the rest on stuff?

Only in the case of student loans or cc/cars/etc the longer you take the richer you're making them while depleting your ability to gain personal wealth.

All this talk about paying 300K worth of loans doesn't apply to the majority of borrowers fresh out of college/grad programs.

Two of my friends have careers in BigLaw who just got married, 160k starting salaries for both and they have loan payments of 5 stacks a month, not including all of their personal expenses....
They had to hold off on having children until they can get their loans down to at least a hundred (they have 300+ combined) as they did grad programs too....

They were in the top of their classes mind you and diligent with their studies. Again, this is a rarity. This mentality of "Live like a monk and pay it back asap" doesn't apply in the real world.

As long as you aren't late with payments, you are in good standing which helps your credit score....

Unfortunately they knew classmates who played around with the bar exam, failed, and had to take jobs as admin assistants making 40K a year with 100+ in loans, that is the American truth now for students.

Liberal Arts Majors are worthless in my opinion and are a large problem with colleges. STEM fields devour the weak and reward the strong...

Wow. They both did law school and graduate programs?

How do they only have $300k worth of debt? Did they go to a T-10 law school?

3 years of law school each + graduate school prior to should put them above $300k in debt if they went to good schools.

old dude was trying to drop game on his dumbass but young dude thinks like a loser. he was even trying to tell him in a very subtle/slick way not to marry the girl. :mjlol:

the fukked up part is that young dude is a fukking lawyer :dwillhuh:

one last thing i will say on a semi related note. From the way i see it, 74% chance old dude is racist (i get the vibe from him). having said that, you should still peep game.

@mamba

I forgot I chronicled how student debt almost cost me the job I needed to pay the shyt back :francis:

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/student-loans-almost-cost-me-a-job-opportunity.329618/best-posts

Damn. :whoo:

It's good it all worked out for you.

Just goes to show you how the deck is stacked against Black people.

Not only are our resumes gettin' tossed in the bushes based on "Black" names but, if we manage to get past that, our credit reports can hurt us.

This is a problem because Black students take on student loan debt at higher rates than any other group. We also have trouble paying them back more than any other group.

We're told we need college degrees to gain access to the system. But, in the process of financing that education, we ultimately find ourselves penalized! :francis:

shyt is unfair, breh.
