If you were in the DNC thread the topic of student loan and personal responsibility came up. Most people were complaining about being "forced" into taking out massive amount of money for undergrad.

Of course no one blamed those who were in direct care of them, like their parents. Instead they blamed the "system" , bankers and other strangers. They were complaining about how impossible it is for parents to save money OVER THE COURSE OF 18 YEARS.

So my questions are to those who took out student loans.

Will you break the cycle and save money for your childrens college?

Or will you fail them as your parents failed you?

Is it impossible to save maybe $100 a month for 18 years, giving your kids roughly 22K or is the cell phone data plan and cable too much sacrifice for you?

you need money to live after you pay for school though

u can save up 22k then what u pay tuition how do you eat how do you live etc.

how do you get around etc.

loans aren't just because you're parents didn't save up

Knowing what I know now, my kids will not have student loans. I took out a 529 Plan for them. They will apply for scholarships (Companies and people be giving out scholarship money left and right, you just gotta put in the work)

I'm working to secure their future. I wish my parents would have thought that much of me to invest in me instead of making me take out loans.

College is overpriced to begin with. It's all by design. Using your logic, parents fail the moment they conceive because the system is setup for you to be in debt and become a corporate slave.

if your parents are american and they allowed you to get into school debt, debt u have no hope of paying off for the next 20 years, then ur parents are criminals and should be lambasted.

the biggest mistake any average american can make is taking out loans to go to big name schools. dont be an idiot. we live in the most successful country in the world where all u really need to succeed is hard work and education. and when i say education, i aint talking about these schools that charge ridiculous sums of money for tuition. any county college in the United States is good enough....except those idiotic online ones

first of all, there's nothing wrong with student loans. they work with you on payments and it only hurts you if you default on them. everybody doesnt have money to pay 100% of their kids tuition. unless you an athlete or a genius. you not getting a full scholarship either. you know how much middle class people wish they could get student loans but cant cause they make too much money. people kill me, you talk about i dont want my kids in debt but guess what .they gonna be in debt no matter what. credit card debt, car payment debt .at least student loan debt means something. and stop trying to front by sending your kids to these expensive ass schools. nothing wrong with a state school or a hbcu

Respect to all the brothas out here taking control of their financial futures.

Respect to all thr brothas investing not only monetarily but this knowledge on how to make the system work for you will be passed on.

Respect to all the brothas taking responsibility for their actions.

My problem isn't so much loans it's blaming complete strangers for your hardships.

My problem is the thought that you need to handicap your financial future for higher education. That's not true and this thread proves it.
