There is a Chinese man who brings his 6th grader to the UCLA library EVERYDAY to do her homework and LOUD-whispers the whole gawt damn time in Mandarin. She used to look so frightened, but now she's used to it and playing her role. I wonder if she has any friends :mjcry:

That's why the want to stop immigrating high-skilled immigrants. They're tired of getting sonned in the work place by immigrants with a thick ass foreign accent.

@Tommy Knocks really hit it on the mark, especially about the cultural focus on memorization and how American Asians don't ever get hired into leadership positions.

If you ever go to the Reddit Asian Parent stories forum, it is so depressing to read. All the adults and kids who post their are academically high performing but discuss serious developmental issues/delays because of the verbal (and often physical) abuse their parents put them through, including:
-lack of hygiene habits
-inability to form sound social relationships
-violence for learning disabilities
-depression, suicide ideations

Successful stories in this forum means you've been able to cut off or limit all contact with the parents and not treat your child or spouse the same way you were raised. These kids and adults dread thanksgiving, Mother's Day and any other family time.

Aren't Nigerians the top academically successful group in the USA? Even more than that of Asian groups.
I feel like this is the appropriate time for this gif

I know in China the average folks pay for school and the smart asses that qualify get to go to private school for free.

Maybe this could one reasoning behind push toward academic success, at least for Chinese and Chinese diaspora.

It's definitely cultural.
Asian parents are ruthless.
I remember my girl telling me she brought home a 91 - which was still an A - on an AP Chemistry mid term in high school and her pops ripped it up in front of her.
:mjlol:
That's a double edge sword, though.

I'm Jamaican but I don't really know if it's a cultural thing. I brought home 107 on a quiz once and my pops asked me why didn't get 110 (I only got some of the extra credit right :beli:).

I think some parents are just a$$holes :manny:
