Comm college won't get you a job tho right?

I'd love to take my advertising/sociology major and somehow go get my masters in a stem field or some sort of MBA or MS in business/marketing.

I'm at a top school and so far I've gotten like 3 offers for bullshyt staffing/recruiting sales type jobs.

Most em are Barry making 30k a year and one in particular even was commission only on insurance sales.

Bruh, like wtf. I'm pissed as fukk. I was workin during school as a banker for 34k without a degree. I'm tryna at least get 45k

Join the industry association for your field (not sure what the national advertising association is) and join the local branch and attend meetings. Network like hell.

The community college itself won't get you the job but if you get a cert in your field that will help differentiate you.

I did a business/accounting major and went back for a masters in accounting. i don't regret it but it was hard af for me to get a job coming out of school this past summer. I wish I was smart enough to do comp sci or engineering.
The job market is tough and 4 year liberal arts degrees don't guarantee good jobs anymore...shyt even technical/vocational majors don't guarantee that any more.
your grades must have sucked then or there was some other factor limiting you getting a job.

With the those two concentration you should be able to sit for your state CPA exam unless you don't meet the credit requirement. You can take some of your credits to meet at community college but some require senior college to credit. Another route if you really need the credit is masters which will provide you with another chance to network with accounting firms. I don't know your full drive but shoot for that CPA

I had good grades and part time actg and general office work exp and was interviewed by top firms. I honestly think it was my personality and appearance...tbh public accounting would not have been good for me. I'm very quiet and look like a stereotypical geek. One interviewer at a firm basically said I was boring.

I should have said I graduated from my master's in May 2016 lol. I began my first every FT accounting job in late summer. I registered to begin choosing sections to sit for in fall. But I realized I hated my job and it could be threatened since it relied on charity/government funds, so I was too stressed to start studying. I left the job a month ago when I got a new offer for a finance job in the medical field, and at my new job only like three people at the senior/VP level are active cpas. I might register for some sections soon since my state allows you to get licensed as long as you have a year of accounting work exp, it does not have to be supervised by an active cpa.

i like accounting. the old job was like basic financial auditing and data entry. I only used base accounting skills at the first one, no idea why it was labeled 'finance". The new one is kinda like corporate/financial planning but I haven't seen any crazy finance models and stuff so far, mostly just throwing stuff in Excel and making graphs and huge formulas.
my old job gave me stress induced hypertension and messed with my sleep. my new job pays much, much more and I like it so far.

You sound like the average accountant to me :yeshrug:
Were you trying to be an auditor when you were interviewing with the firms? Your personality might have been better suited for tax.

To clarify, when I said CPA I'm referring to Certified Public Accounting but I'm basically saying in the bold is I i don't know his end goal but I recommend him sitting for the CPA exam if his degree is concentrated in business and accounting.
i know what a cpa is, i'm about to have a degree in accounting. i was asking you why you said he needed to get one.

I only applied and interviewed for tax positions b/c I know I'd probably die if I had to talk to strangers all day and travel a lot.
Honestly I think public accounting prefers ppl that look and act confident (like the "popular kids") since it's client-facing. I've gotten more confident slowly but it was hard.

Would open some more opportunities for him and from what he posted he said he got his Masters in Accounting so why not take advantage of having 150+ credits that qualify him to sit for the exam if there are some lack of opportunities. When I made that post though I wasn't aware that he actually graduated with a Masters, I assumed he just had a undergrad in business with accounting minor/concentration and was just offering different routes to obtain CPA eligibility without actually getting a Masters.
