Production wild dated on this joint, sounds like something Styles had in the stash since the mid 00s and he just pulled it out the vault.

This.

I really don't understand how rappers who have been in the game for SO long fail to understand such a key element. It's like the entirety of the old NY establishment is content to remain forgotten due to their unwillingness to compete in the marketplace. You need current beats and a presence out here amongst the younger acts. That doesn't mean changing who you are, but at least try to compete for airspace. Hard beats and rhymes don't cut it.

Fabolous is the only one that seems to get this, at least to an extent.

Explain.

In what way do the two contradict?

Last time I checked, current and hard are not synonymous.

Styles has hard beats for sure. But they're dated as hell and nobody wants to hear them. Where are his appearances on songs with young cats? Sorry, but you have to be where the people are. Hip-hop isn't like rock and R&B where the people come to you.

Not sure what there is to explain. Hard beats and rhymes should be the foundation of your songs in the first place. I just feel like this isn’t the album to claim as dated, as these are some of the best solo beats he’s had in years. The Lox or that Wise Guy album I can see. Plus his album with Berner was dope as well. Appearances on songs with young cats? Hasn’t he done songs with Don Q, Dave East, Joey Badass and 38 Spesh? Do you want him on songs with Lil Uzi, Young Thug, Lil Pump, and Kyle, where it clearly wouldn’t mesh and would scream “money grab”?

:hhh:
