Subtracting a point per miss to solve NBA three point dilemma

Simple math suggest over time the higher percentage 2s would produce more points than 3s, no? The problem I see is it would on average probably take longer than 48 minutes for 2s shot at say 50% to produce more points than 3s shot at 33%.


However this leads to other beneficial results. Big men cooking in the paint at 65%+ around the rim are now valued much more than today because a team eating BBQ chicken all day could wash a team of average 3 point shooters when you account for the -1 for misses. Everybody ain't Steph Curry, so them bum ass 33% shooters gonna cripple their team out there chucking some bullshyt.

Teams will require a legit defensive big, thereby limiting this 5 out nonsense, very rarely will you see a Joel Embiid type who could do both when motivated.


I can't be the first to think of this so somebody come in here and tell me why this idea has already been proven to be garbage, thanks brehs


Oh by the way FREE throws don't -1 for misses, because they are free fukkin throws. You don't get to foul me making me miss my gimmie AND potentially TAKE AWAY points from me

You can't get rid of three, it's dynamism helped popularize the sport. But these 20something year old kids shoot too well in that big ass rim. Make the circle a bit smaller smh. We tired of chucking.

Why not make contested shots at the basket 4 points , makes teams who drive to the basket and players who are good at contested shots invaluable.

If you get fouled, shoot 2 or 3 FTs, league can figure that one out.

I mean I'm not doing it because I'm confident I'm right, y'all can't be serious thinking Steph will only take 2s (which will also -1 for misses) instead of 3s (which will still only -1 for misses) . Don't he shoot at 40% from 3?? I think the math will tell you that's better than 50% 2s all day even with the -1.


EDIT: I just looked it up, this muthaphucka shoots 42.5% from three for his CAREER. He shooting 3s no matter what the rule change is.
