There was always going to be a single genre of music needed to advertise products which is all hiphop music is at this point--3 minute long advertisements for things like: alcohol, cars, headphones, designer brands, etc. I think this is the real reason why other genres died out, and why hiphop lost its creativity/substance. I think it has more to do with business/money than it does any one group of people destroying the genre.

Crossover attempts hurt Hip Hop the most. Soiled its purity.

Top brass record label execs saw an opportunity to tap into a massive market with very steep barriers to entry. Their solution? Package rap music as a nice within the general, abhorrent pop genre.

So cacs did play a role. A fukking big one. Cats like Kanye and Drake were just the mules used to achieve that end.

Question y'all question :lupe:

I grew up straight. parents aint really have money but we weren't broke. Plus my dad in the military and they make sure families are taken care of.

Got family from the hood, been in the hood, allat I know it.

Every nikka in the hood wants to make money to get out the hood..well most nikkas right? :lupe:

You wanna provide your kids with a better lifestyle than you had right? :lupe: (shout to my daddy cuz he did it for me :salute:)

So y'all do realize these same suburb nikkas y'all be tryna clown, gonna be your children one day right? :lupe: Unless you wanna stay broke in the hood and have ur kids grow up in the same circumstances.

Hip hop hasn't died, but it got worse because lyrics was put secondary, and beats changed for better or for worse. The beats got slower. Fewer samples, no drum breaks, etc. Drums have slowly been getting softer for the most part too, we went full circle to 808s and for some reason the samples everyone uses are really weak. The tempo slowing really takes away danceability and makes it hard to rap compelling, now you either have a trap flow or you're chopping, which can get corny if you aren't skilled. Couple that with lack of creativity, lack of compelling figures, lack of originators, yeah we're in a low point. ADD THOSE THINGS to the pop takeover of hip hop and it got even worse. It isn't so bad, though, right now we have a few artists that make/made good music/hip hop out of all of it

Whether true or not, that's an interesting way of framing it.
