Suicide is not talked about in the black community? How do you feel about it?

it used to not be a prominent issue... but the hood is brainwashed these days so not surprising. I would say homosexual #'s and suicide rates have skyrocketed in the black community.

There just needs to be better resources for people to get treatment. Those same people also need a healthy social and support circle as well.

Tho if this country doesn't give a shyt about whites wit mental illness (shoutout to Ronald Regan) black people with mental ailments are facing a goddamn mountain as oppose to a hill for the challenges they have to face.

I think mental disorders are not something we should be ashamed of and are something we should be able to talk with each other openly about.

It would be great if there was a national black network of psychologists. No one in this country can relate to us and address our concerns better than us.

Depression and general mental illness is something that isn't really acknowledged or taken seriously by the black community which is quite sad as it is a big / real thing. Cases like the ones in the OP happen regularly and for black Americans being living life in an extremely disadvantageous position most of the time it is something that would affect them more. The topic needs to be addressed and open to discussion man. RIP to that girl.

Seen plenty of threads made about suicide and seen many people just laugh at it. Mentel illness isnt taken as seriously in the black community as it should be. A lot of nikkas growing up in the hood has seen more shyt as a child than some soldiers have seen on tour. Of course shyt like that is gonna fukk someone. I used to be one of them dudes that didnt take it seriously either, until one of my friends took his own life. All the signs were there, he even told me himself, but since I never experienced it I didnt think he would do it. Thats why I make sure to address stuff like that instead of sweeping it under the rug, because I refuse to let someone go through shyt like that alone.

I think a huge part of Suicidal Thoughts come from the pressures of Society that was designed to tell people unless you have this or that, look like this, weigh that, own this, make that ($$$), etc... you have failed at Life. The constant chase of getting "there" keeps people from living & enjoying the moments & what they have "here" & by the time they work hard to get "there" then "there" has once again been moved.

Depression isn't something some can fight without actual medical help & possible therapy. We live our lives not for ourselves but under the microscope of others expectations & standards & that can create a hostile internal environment.

I feel a lot of people hide their true feelings even those who portray on Social Media a life of extravagant living. I have a Songwriter friend who is by others standards very successful... a decade in the industry, multiple Top 40 Records & Plaques galore. Yet, he was clinically diagnosed with depression 2 years ago & was just lost. When I talked to him he said all he meets are people who pretend to be his friend because they believe he can put them on... he says he no longer can trust any woman who pursues him because of his status & hates being around the celebrities & industry people who he feels cares zero about him, use him & always act fake just for the Photo Ops. He had everything an aspiring Songwriter could have & yet he nearly ended his own life.

Another is a young lady who is a very well established RN. Makes 3 figures a year, owns her own house & car & is VERY attractive & unfortunately a Single Mother in her 30's. She was clinically depressed & despite having all of that she felt like a failure because she is under the influence that if she were such a good person then why aren't any Men staying around after a couple months of dating. She has fallen victim to the Hollywood version of Romance & feels she has failed her Daughter because her Baby Daddy turned out to be nothing like the Image he portrayed in the beginning. She also nearly ended her life...

Both have things some would give their left arm to have & yet they both feel their lives don't meet the fulfilment they believe is necessary to be happy.

Depression is no joke & it doesn't matter what one has or the person people have perceived them to be.

Life is tough...

I know of two black people that committed suicide. One happened this past weekend. I knew her from middle school and high school. Sad part is she had a daughter that's now without a mother. It's kinda crazy to think about. I am sure depression drove her to do it.

Scumbag, pagan levels of selfishness. fukk that bytch.

If you ain't got any dependants, though, do you.

Growing up Christian I use to think they were weak minded people and suicide was a display of cowardice.
I was so brainwashed to believe in shyt like praying your way thru things that i totally overlooked the reality that many people have chemical imbalances that must be treated with medicine
We as black people need to acknowledge mental illnesses and realize that there is no good to stigmatising the situation
