Suicide is not talked about in the black community? How do you feel about it?

Most blacks from urban communities suffer from depression and I feel allot suffer from bi polar disorder, but when you mention it most laugh. The ignorance is sad, and people wonder why you see a allot of people from the community snapping and being loud and vulgar. Its crazy the conditions some people have to live in, not to mention knowing that most of the world hates you for no reason.

I use to think it was a coward move until I researched the psychology behind it. Some people just not mentally built the same and we should encourage them instead of shytting on them.

I was surprised people were so against the belief that there may be something wrong emotionally or mentally instead they just choose to believe they're 'weak' because it fits their narrow world view I guess.

I've been there. There was a time when suicide was...I don't know if i consider it strongly on my mind or what. But everytime I would fukk up again, the thought of committing suicide would cross my mind. I've been diagnosed with mild depression before...but i don't know if that had anything to do with it. It was more like how people view OCD, its something in your mind that you cannot get out for whatever reason. For me the key was breaking the cycle of negative thoughts leading to negative decision making which lead to stronger negative thoughts...idk.. it's a medical but personal struggle so every struggle is different but it's sad to see who you know was once healthy end up offing themselves and often noone tried to get them help

There are trained professionals with psych degrees that can help, but it's #STEMLife on the Coli so my recommendation is get you some certs and it'll all be okay brehs/brehettes

Many educated people off themselves. The ones with the stressful STEM jobs.

I think mental disorders are not something we should be ashamed of and are something we should be able to talk with each other openly about.

It would be great if there was a national black network of psychologists. No one in this country can relate to us and address our concerns better than us.

I finally took the step and am seeing a therapist however she's white. Certain things I have to fully explain to her because she just doesn't get.

This goes back to slavery when we would work no matter what was going on with us. We had to suck it up and keep it moving and its sad that it still affects us to this day.

It's increased over the years, but we gonna pretend like mental health isn't a huge issue in the black community. And depression and suicide is just "white people shyt".

I know of two black people that committed suicide. One happened this past weekend. I knew her from middle school and high school. Sad part is she had a daughter that's now without a mother. It's kinda crazy to think about. I am sure depression drove her to do it.

There is a lack of effective counceling, and mental health programs in the black community in general.

Not to mention the stigma among black people about getting help about your issues. In many ways, we use our pain and struggle as sources of pride instead of things that need to be worked on. I personally think everyone on earth can benefit from good therapy. Doubly so for black folks.

Man, this is the shyt that makes brothers and sisters NOT go get help. Mental issues are something you can't even help and nikkas are always talking about "it wasnt that big a deal"...

Well it wasn't because you didn't see it. People were shamed into hiding mentally ill family members, or they got thrown into the Loony Bin away from society (but also not in the prison system). Now with the divestment of state run mental health facilities, and the prolifiration of for-profit prisons, its easier to just throw a crazy nikka in jail instead of having him get some therapy and some meds.



But you know, "rah rah, suicide...rah rah..gay nikkas...blah blah...weakness". Some of you nikkas need to read some books and grow the fukk up.
