He was quite a handsome man..

Feel sorry for his kids. fukk. Also fukked that he is my age. As a black engineer I empathize about the work environments and navigating being the only black person or one of a few in the industry.

This is sad, fukk Uber :pacspit:
This breh was young and successful, they just had to break his spirit to the point he gave up on life and his family.
Suicide wasn't the way out. Now his family is worse off than they would have been if he quit.

I've been in a similar situation in the past. Every morning was like preparing to go to a battlefield on some Rambo shyt. Just you vs everybody else. Couldn't take the stress and ended up quiting best decision I ever made. We really need a support system for situations like this.

A poster made a comment about how often do we see a group of blacks having lunch 5 - 10 deep...you'll be lucky if there are 5 blacks total in the entire building.

How did you have the mettle to deal with that shyt and bounce?

I divulged a situation of mine in 6 Figures 6 Certs and I'm making moves, but yeah going to work and thinking of slipping up and shyt...I've been in worse situations (not work just in general life) but something about being in a work environment with high stakes can certainly get to you.

Who knows what was on his mind...

That job must have killed his soul to the ultimate level. Its understandable because we spend more time at work during the week than at home. A stressful job that puts u in a place to fail miserably with racist cacs and Asians can tear a bruh's soul and pride.

Now that I look closer something else was up. But there is still no doubt that Uber caused 70% of the mental anguish.

You really shouldn't. A lot of talented brothers are fine with that "glass ceiling" so to speak as long as their skillset is tight. Once you reach a certain level, the politics/culture become unbearable for most brothers

This statement makes me uncomfortable.

It sounds bad but it seems as if he wasn't "built" so to speak, for that career at Uber.
Other high-profile careers that place an immense amount of stress on you with incredibly grueling hours, and almost no Black coworkers have similar stories.
If he wasn't prepared to take on 90hr development weeks, in an uncomfortable atmosphere, he should have quit.
I feel bad for him, as well as the family that just lost their father, husband, and likely their main source of income.
To be real a lot of people burn out incredibly quickly and deal with depression and suicide ideation because they're not used to no longer being the "top" o their "class."
Doesn't sound like he was about that Adderall/Modafinil life that many of his coworkers are on.
RIP.

Black people need to decide how bad they want to be "successful"

Every nikka basically gotta be Jackie Robinson on a corporate level...

Is making 6 figures really worth that...

And if you decide it's worth that...well...this Uber engineer's end is a reality...

He could've stayed in Atlanta with other Black people, live a comfortable life...but no...he wanted to go to Uber...and look at what he got...:yeshrug:
The breh had aspirations, the top companies work for in that region are Uber, AirBnb, Apple, Google, IBM, and Microsoft, with Uber offering the highest starting salary and shares of the company.
If breh was going to gain some clout in the industry, and grapple his way into starting a venture of his own, he needed that job, and to an extent, the security that came with it.
Its a crushing amount of pressure, coupled with racism, and anxiety he'd likely had before he even started.

Suicicide is coward shyt, especially if you have a family.

There is nothing you could do to hurt your family more.
I dont give a fukk if they were calling him ****** every day of the week, you dont do that to your family.

You quit and do something else.
Cottenelle soft generation, this disgusts me :scust:

All that being said... probably something else was going on...
Do you honestly think suicide suddenly manifested itself after 1985 for Black people?
A lot of posters on the Coli love to make fun of "toxic masculinity" but when you're honestly so far gone you can't even have sympathy for your fellow Black man who lost what was likely a long struggle with mental health and literally breaking down, the shyt fits to a T :scust:
