why is that?

Because people in Silicon Valley are networked pretty well. People hop around to different companies.

First thing folks at the new company he was interviewing at in the Valley would have done is call their buddies at Uber to get the backstory on him.

Peer ratings at previous gigs are probably just as important as your interview!

Breh knew that. That's why he felt trapped.

Suicide is never the answer. But, like others have said, when the brain is stressed like that, chemical and physical changes start affecting your decisions.

he was only there for five months; a more than reasonable amount of time to be looking for a job. dont put Uber on your resume if that is the case or discuss them during an interview. problem solved.

And this would seal his fate. I'm willing to bet he knew this too.

I mean, if you're working in a factory or T-mobile it's probably not gonna hurt as much,
i work in finance/accounting...an even more network and clique oriented field. yall buggin

if you got companies like Apple and Uber trying to hire you you're the prize at that point. He wasnt confident and like he said his spirit was broken. He was weak. it is what it is.

If he was that afraid he could/ve hired a consultant or recruiter to facilitate

Because these jobs and titles mean the difference between living and merely surviving.

No doubt.

But, as @mcdivit85 pointed out, we get too caught up in that shyt at the expense of our own happiness.

Is compromising your value system worth it? Is compromising your mental and physical health worth it?

I'd argue that a job/title isn't worth that type of impact to your overall well being.

But, because we get so caught up in titles/jobs, it's easy to lose sight of what really matters.

What "really matters" is subjective, for me, it's not living in mediocrity and making a nice salary which means I'll have to make some concessions in the workplace to accommodate that.

all i know is suicide was the last option that was necessary. All he had to do was quit. Even if he had to leave Sillicon Valley and work in another industry or in another state he could've done that. I'm sure he had the skills and mobility. There is no excuse. Only people I feel sorry for are his family
I can't stress how much of a cesspool Uber is culturally
you've worked with them?

Those concessions should never be such that they impact your mental or physical health. Period.

A culture that is polar opposite of your value system? Eventually, it'll weigh on you.

A boss that demeans you? That shyt will ultimately erode your physical and mental health.

Money comes and goes. But, damage to your mental or physical health can't be easily reversed in some cases.
