Oh, things have definitely changed since the Stuart case. Boston has become less working class, due in no small part to a steady influx of educated professionals who’ve turned its profile from one of blue collar parochialism to more progressive humanism. There’s still racism. Don’t get it twisted. There’s also a strong undercurrent of NIMBYism (a recent example being the fight over housing the addicts that frequented Mass & Cass, a tent city for homeless heroin addicts).Interesting things must’ve changed since in the Charles Stuart days in the 90s where the police were riling up entire neighborhoods of black men and stripping them naked.
The racism is less like Irish thugs yelling “Go back to Dorchester!” during the bussing disputes and more of a genteel, patronizing variety from do gooder liberals.
