Could it be a metaphor? Absolutely. The “flood” could’ve meant anything.

Noah (or Gilgamesh) could’ve been “protecting” the Earth from something else, or there could’ve been/more than likely was a very large flood that wiped out a lot of Earth and they retold the story

Earth........no. I just think their interpretations was based on their perception at the time. If they were given a cell phone, how would they describe it and would we understand that description thousands of years later.

probably just a natural cycle in the earth's history, periods of time where it's OD hot, then cold earth i figure since there are oceans under the earth crust if their location shifts or their levels shift it probably affects the surface oceans and topography is a major way. the story is probably science broken down to supposed allegory because of organized religion (USED by kings, gov'ts etc) and it's need to dumb the masses for control
