The superbowl is an event where people gather for ONE GAME to basically drink their ass off, watch crazy commercials, watch an over the top half time performance, and eat shtty food. The game is bigger than sports itself at this point. Its a spectacle. It cant at all be compared to a series of games for other leagues...To that point, if the NFL was *that* popular, then why dont playoff game ratings match that of the sb, or even come close to it? SB is a whole 'nother marketing entity unto itself.
A single, one time event just lends itself to more casual, mainstream viewers. Hats off to the NFL for exploiting that sensibility, and also the marketing the violent, exciting nature of the game. Other leagues just cant compete.
