btw @winb83

Metacritic and MOST reviews for the most part are bs. Its better to just form your own opinion. I really liked Alpha Protocol even tho critics hated on it.

i like a lot of games there's a huge difference between liking a game and claiming that a slightly above average game with very beautiful graphics is possibly best single player game this gen.

my biggest problem with this game is that in an attempt to differentiate itself from Uncharted it added a level system. early in the game my character gets a pick axe. i have to level my character up to the point where she can gain the ability to use it as a weapon. why? just to comply with a dumb character progression system? on top of that the melee attack is in the second tier of powerups so you can't even access it until you've bought several pointless powerups to unlock tier 2. once i got the melee attack i quit using stealth and the bow and arrow and just ran up on people and melee attacked them to death even over using guns. in the middle of a gun battle i just run up on them and axe them to death.

in Uncharted wisely so you don't need to level up shyt you find guns and just use them you have a melee attack from the get go. why because the level system is completely unnecessary. game is filled to the brim with a bunch of useless task the tombs are pointless other than to get skills points and experience i shouldn't even need. running around looking for salvage and pieces to upgrade weapons is also pointless.

sure it has a level system so its deeper than Uncharted but that same level system is both pointless and in the way of enjoying the game.

let's talk about the narrative, story, and characters. all three suck. since you have the industry standard recharging health the deer you had to hunt at the beginning of the game was pointless because when does Lara ever really have to hunt again or get hungry? the whole cast of characters that was on Lara's boat with the exception of Roth was completely forgettable. a hodgepodge of token minorities and stereotypes. the geeky Asian girl, the angry black woman, the nerdy white guy with glasses fukking idiots were good for nothing but getting kidnapped and relying on Lara who was no more experienced at anything than they were. you watch Lara struggle and cry about her first kill then literally in seconds after it you're gunning fools down then in the same game you're graphically mauling people with a pick axe like you're a serial killer and this is the same chick talking about "I hope we don't become murderers."

the whole game is graphic violence porn. filled with gruesome scripted deaths for both Lara and her victims but the theme of it is supposed to be her becoming the Lara we know from the series. the whole story and narrative fail to do what they set out to do.

somebody please tell me how this is best single player this gen. i listed my beefs with it.

oh yeah where are the dual pistols?

Lara with no dual pistols is like Agent 47 without them and Sonic with no speed or Mario with no mushrooms. its an iconic part of the character.

I haven't played the game yet, I was mostly putting it out there that metacritic should not hold that much weight to a gamer these days. That numbers game is for casuals. Hell the fact that you threw out 5 games that have not even been released yet is enough proof to me that you put too much stock in what the media thinks/hypes before release. The Last of Us CAN turn out to be trash...remember the hype L.A. Noire was getting? Then it came out and many people were turned off by it? Let the game come out before predicting where its going to land on end of the year lists

To be fair wasn't LA Noire getting all that hype for its super facial animation technology? I never played the game but I thought it was just going to be a GTA clone with cops. Far as LOU is concerned there have already been previews out saying its great.

Facial animation and the fact that it was Rockstar behind it especially after the PIFF that RDR was had people going crazy during the clips that were being released.

I fell for it and bought it Day 1. One of the worst experiences I have had this gen...so boring

And Who The Hell Is Bothered By Lara Being Shaken By Her First Kill And Then Not Being Phased By Killing After That? Do You Want A Cut Scene Of Her Hesitant To Kill People EVERY Time A Damn Enemy Pops Up? Thats The Most Retarded Complaint Ive Ever Seen

As Far As Killing Deer, Who Cares? These Seem Like Straight Up Nerd Complaints, Enjoy The Damn Game

What does this game do better than any of the games I listed? It's an slightly above average game given to a competent developer and has very high production values but what outside of graphics makes it so impressive?

I'm honestly curious because some posters here are ranking this pretty high but not really saying why. To me this game has no real identity. Nothing defines it outside the high production values.

As for your question how about constructing gameplay mechanics about her reluctance to kill? How about giving the option like say metal gear where you don't have to kill anyone because she doesn't want to?

I'm sorry but :laff: @ regenerating health not being realistic being a complaint :pachaha:

Not saying I like regenerating health or not, but to say it contradicts the need to eat in the game because "why would you need to with regenerating health" lol

Ya'll are never satisfied (Haven't played this Tomb Raider yet)

Can't say it's the best, but it deserves to be in the conversation. In my opinion it could never be better than games like fallout/skyrim just due to sheer scope and the wealth of options and freedom those games offer. But if we are comparing it to more focused action experiences then I think it's the best. Until now max Payne 3 held that crown but I enjoyed tomb raider more and I'm even still playing it after I beat it.

@winb83 all that stuff you listed are reasons why I like this game more than other similar titles. Out of all of them the gameplay in tomb raider is the best. I liked the adventure/exploration aspects of the game. The crafting and upgrade system are welcome additions for me.

As for your complaints about health packs and plot holes. All games have that type of stuff I just call it "video game shyt" in order to make a playable game your gonna have to make some jumps in logic and some unrealistic features. Yeah self recharging healthbars are unrealistic, but people in real life don't even have health bars, and if you get shot a "health pack" wouldn't help you anyway We've come to accept things being unrealistic/unexplained in games in order for them to be playable. And on the subject of "video game shyt" tomb raider wasn't that bad. Uncharted was way worse with gameplay stuff that didn't fit the story or the overall narrative.

To Me What It All Come Down To Is, Is This Game Enjoyable? Is It Fun? Does It Feel Like An Experience

And To Me ALL Of The Above Applies, I Had/Am Having A BALL Playing This Game, And It Really Is Enjoyable And Fun

And As Far As Calling Lara A "Stone Cold Killer", She Doesn't Even Know How To Shoot A Gun Properly

You Actually Have To Gain Experience Throughout The Game

Same Thing With Killing People With The Rock Climbing Pick, She Doesn't Do It Off Bat, It Takes Time For Her To Build Up To That

The Only Real Criticism I Can Agree With Is The Lack Of Depth With The Other Characters, But I Have A Feeling We'll Never See These People Again Anyway, The Flashback Scenes From The Handheld Camera Showed Me Enough To Not Make It A Real Concern For Me Personally, I Dont Need To Know The Lil Chinese Girls Life Story.
