Yeah but it was a gritty movie and not supposed to make a billion. This is the flagship movie of Gunn's dc universe so it has to crush it at the box office.

I mean part of the reason why Gunn even has this job is because Snyder's Batman Vs Superman movie ONLY mad 870 million and WB execs said nah that a billie that's a flop.

Yeah, but that's because that movie included BOTH Batman & Superman.

I don't think WB execs are expecting this upcoming Superman movie to make a billy. That would be unrealistic.

I have no doubts it will be a box office hit but the critical reception is way more important for this movie. Especially coming off of how directionless the last regime was moving and this joint being the theatrical entryway into Gunn/Safran’s DCU. So far it looks like it can be that “don’t worry, we got you” crowd pleaser for them.

Again you can easily go down the road of why doesn’t he intervene to stop racist cops? Crooked politicians who start unjust wars? All of MS13? Mexican Cartels who kill thousands of innocent people? Why should war be the only thing he doesn’t intervene in?

you can and thats why the writers keep Superman away from these storylines because of the rabbit hole.

You cannot write Superman to stop war and then to decide “I ain’t gonna do it anymore” at the end of the movie. That’s a Homelander move.

It’s also different to other characters because with Superman the character is world breaking OP. There is nothing that can stop the character in film

That’s why I say some things you have to let go when dealing with this genre. Unless it’s a property going more for “realism” like Watchmen or something.

And the point of bringing up Cap and Tony was that you can well akshully their decision to not involve the Avengers in major threats they certainly could use their help on. Same goes for any solo hero that doesn’t.

We literally saw the storyline with Killmonger in Black Panther breh.

Killmonger had his “Superman” which was Wakandan technology/Vibranium, more powerful than anything else in story. To save people he tried to takeover the world.

Pretty much. 'The Batman' made $770M in basically half of a typical theater run. But I don't think 'Superman' will make that and it doesn't have to. As long as it's good, the universe will be fine.

Anyone else tired of Lex Luthor? Imean, i know he's the main Superman villain, but jeez, I wish some new threat would emerge.

Luthor is the check that keeps Superman balanced. Without him, it just becomes a monster punch fest. Luthor is needed to tell Superman's full story.

See I don't think WB gives a shyt about what the critical reception of this movie is, that is what the Batman and shows like the Penguin are for. If this movie has a 30% rotten tomatoes score but makes a billie I think WB will be fine with that. But if this has a RT score of 85% and only makes 700 million...the only other Gunn related DC movie we will see is whatever is in production or post production right now.
